My mom is moving her 1 bedroom apt from from NV to TX. 1500 miles approx. No appliances, no furniture except a queen mattress and ikea bedframe plus 13-ish 2x2 boxes which were already packed and a few art pieces including a 6 ft wooden giraffe statue weighing about 60 pounds. Everything was all wrapped and boxed ready to go. Quote was $3k. Seemed decent enough. All these items fit into a 10x8 storage unit with plenty of room to spare. She donated all appliances and furniture to salvation army to lighten the load etc. Cancellation is free until 5 days before the move. On the 4th day before the move they tell her " because you used large boxes instead of medium boxes the price has doubled and it's now going to cost $6,000"
Fuck you AEY logistics.

Re: Moving companies are bastards
At first I thought this was a math question.
Then I thought this was a biblical story, as in, “what would the good soul do?”. Especially because there was ,”On the 4th day” etc.
But in the end I conclude this is government taxation on an African giraffe in a condo in America.
Fuck them indeed brother.

Yeah, they are all criminals. These shysters come up with any excuse to raise the rate...bad delivery location, box type, weight under-estimation, etc.
When it comes time to move for us, I plan on keeping only about 10% of my belongings and using a PODS unit to keep control and minimize cost.

Sounds like they're trying to run a scam, especially since they changed the price AFTER the cancellation day. Tell them you're going to report them to the state attorney general if they try to pull this fraudulent BS. If they dig their heels in, fill out an online complaint (should take 10 minutes) and the state will do the rest. You may not get your desired resolution, but then again, you may, because no company wants to answer to a judicial body about potential fraud.
