Twice, about 10 years ago, I ordered Trinidad Fundadores from Rony. Back then, they were about $300/box.
Twice in a row, I received 1998 box codes.
Around the same time, ordered some LGC MdO #2s. Also received a 1998 box code.
Recently ordered a 5x5 box of RG Perlas from COH ($80/box). Box code of 2011 - incredible smokes.

2010, a cab of Cohiba siglo V for $ 300 ish if I remember correctly. Box of 2012 BHK 54's, $ 320. 2 cabs of CORO ten years ago, I think around $500. Those days are Long gone...

I’m only a few years into this side of deeper collecting. It’s funny how things change.
For me it’s about finding what I want at one of the few retailers I buy from at a decent price.
Prices have really increased over the last few years - hopefully they will normalize after production gets back to 100% and consumption drops.
I’m happy to find a good box of PC’s at $135 or so or a box of Robustos at $180 these days.
