The current set of rules was put into place after the last big scam run here by Triple Ligero some 7 yrs ago. There are/were two issues that the no posting rule solved.
First, people complained at there were lots of people posting about how great the guy was in his threads giving a false sense of security.
Second, and more important to me was that it eliminated Rule7 violations. Before I changed that I was getting fed up with people unable to control their outrage over prices and posting on threads. I suspended a lot of people, some were on the verge of outright bans. Some people just can't stay off the keyboard. The result was only good posts and no bad, so the news was slanted.
If people could be diciplined enough to only post questions or "I'll take it" we'd be fine, but there are always those that just feel they have to defend the masses, or to express their outrage over what someone is asking or where they got it.
I'm willing to unlock comments, but I know as soon as I do I'll be suspending a couple of people a week, and as soon as that happens I'll lock it down again.
With regard to responding to threads in the TSBC.

Completely agree with this.
Having the sale threads unlock is just opening the doors to the self righteous pricing police, no body wants that and it doesn't help anything

I've seen it both ways, and prefer that you leave this as it is, Wade.

Do your due diligence and keep yourself secure. That's the best thing you can do for the entire forum.
Rotate passwords, don't use the same password for multiple websites, ask questions of buyers and sellers...
If Paulie was in on this, which it kinda looks like he may have been, there was no avoiding this. It was perfectly executed. If he wasn't involved in this, he did not take the proper steps to secure himself and opened the door for this.

Due diligence and payment method are and will continue to be the only way to "make this site secure." Allowing replies to TSBC threads will only add clutter. For one, many sellers are going to check their PM box, not the thread first and then the inbox. For two, we'll be wading through lots of "PM sent" replies from people who didn't buy. It's not like any sales can keep a realtime inventory.
I'd say keep it as it is.

From now on any purchase I make that's not with a close buddy that I know for sure isn't up to something, I will gladly be paying the fees to cover my ass. If seller doesn't want to work with that, that's a clear enough sign that something can be shady.

The site is working fine as it is. Technology is not substitute for due diligence and common sense. Even the most secure sites can be hacked and the most honest sellers can turn to crooks.
Asking buyers not to use F/F payment is giving the buyers all leverage while the sellers have none. Due to the nature of trades here, everyone wants to keep low profile and avoid arbitration or complaints with payment processors. There are always new members here who are not used to the culture or trade etiquette. When/if they decide that they want their money back for one reason or another, they immediately threaten to file a complaint. This apply to some of the old timers as well.
There are scams on so many other forums. There are many forums which just shut down completely due to very high dollar scams. Saying that OLH is too risky is untrue. To put things in perspectives, look at the sale volume and compare it to the number of scams.
Most of the scams I have seen here and on other forums have the same scene. Rare or hard to find item at an incredibly low price. People flock to it and rush to send their money fearing that someone else will get it before themselves. It is human psychology. Look at the BTO Siglo VI for example. This box is worth almost $1000, but the seller listed it for under $600. I myself looked at and I was tempted, but it didn't make sense to me. It is just too good to be true. I fell into similar scams in the past, and I have lost money too.
I really hope everyone is made whole and the thieve gets what he deserves.
