One of the criteria of undue hardship is loss of efficiency. An employee not on the job lowers the efficiency and production, hence is undue hardships. And IIANM, aren't those guidelines are for federal agencies ?

BTW....How long are we talking? An hour over an 8 hour shift...2 ?....45 minutes ?

Can we stop arguing about the technicalities/semantics and just go back to being racist? That's way simpler.

I think a lot of you are under the impression that these former workers prayed 5x during work hours.
Muslims pray before sunrise, around noon, late afternoon, right after sunset and then once more right before retiring.  Prayer takes no more than 5-10 minutes.  So unless this company has them working long hours, the workers might pray at the work place 3 times tops.  In fact, I'm willing to bet that it takes them longer to walk to that makeshift prayer area and back than the actual prayer recital.

Now from what that company's spokesman is saying, by allowing 11 or so workers to go pray at the same time would leave a whole sector unmanned; that's proof that the accommodation would create an undue hardship.

But what the lawyer is saying is that the company, supervisor or whatever, told them go home if they wanted to pray, infringing upon their rights.  That's the only legal argument they have...if it actually sticks.

Great idea!  But let's not be bigoted towards Christianity cuz, um, that's the right fairy tale to believe in.

If these times and hours are accurate, I would be able to and willing to accommodate their customs. If it creates no hardship to my business, I see no reason to disallow it. I may apparently have been under a misconception as to how it would impact my business. If it doesn't affect me, I see no reason to give a shit :)
