What if it was a rule to post a "tagged" photo with the date of whatever you were selling in the marketplace area? I've been other forums and groups where you request tagged pictures so these sellers listing ultra high end boxes have to prove they have them in their possession. Obviously this isnt going to solve scamming 100% but it could weed out some of these clowns that done have half this stuff in their possession. Thoughts?

Takes a few extra mins to do something like this but I think it could help the marketplace out...

What is his phone number? You did call him on the phone before sending him $1500 correct? Get current pictures via text or email with date verification in the picture? Have him send the package certified mail with signature? Did you get a picture with the numbered box (if they are numbered)? Then you can post on here that you claimed box (232/2000) on his feedback so people can make sure not to purchase the same box 10 times?
Why are we going through this again after the Yippy/Leo fiasco?

I know I wasn't the first to say it but I posted this in the highendcigars scammer thread a while ago. In a TSBC where illegal goods are purchased and there is no recourse for the seller not delivering you should practice due diligence.

Good idea...Even better would be if the time date was from a newspaper or something that couldn't be manipulated..

I agree everyone should do some homework before forking over hundreds or even thousands of dollars but it doesnt always happen. Yeah we cant hold everyones hand 24/7 but the extra hoop to jump through might prevent some 10 year old espys, or 10+ year old Cohiba El's from being listed.

I know less people who get the newspaper then those who do get it. I understand what you are saying though.

obviously there is no full proof plan to stop scammers 100%. Keep placing road blocks, make em jump through more hoops, ban ips, dont allow cell phone signups, etc, etc, etc.

I do like this idea Michael, and would agree it's not 100 percent foolproof, but maybe a step in the right direction.
I feel like I've been here long enough- on both sides of the coin, as both a buyer and seller- to throw this out here as well... OLH, being more of a place of trades and sales than a ' BOTL' community, has a bit of an elephant in the room with recent happenings and discussions from the unfortunate and sickening scam that took place. To be fair, I would suggest there is probably a difference between 'high end' stuff and not so 'high end' stuff, but regardless, often times people buying here are not always afforded an opportunity to do adequate research on sellers and ask a ton of questions from a seller before committing to a purchase. To be honest, it's a bit cutthroat around here, yet for the most part it works. It's easy to throw people under the bus for whatever reasons; maybe they're new, inexperienced, etc, but the point of Trade/Buy/Sell is to move product on a first come first serve basis, no? From my own experiences, several times I've committed to buy from a seller I have no background with except a very quick check of their feedback, knowing that product would move in minutes. Thankfully I've only had one bad experience in my time here. I would add that OLH is not a place for impulse buyers, but it happens and it makes for good business, at least for the seller. All this said, I'm not sure there is a resolve to the dynamics of it, but when we start calling people out about not doing their homework, I think we are only seeing part of the picture. Honestly, I'm of the opinion it's part of the monster that 'we' have created.
I know I don't post often so I know I'm opening myself by throwing around my .02.. Have fun with it :)
