Regarding the questionable CoRo

Post by UBB »

Since I'm sure many are waiting on bated breath.

FShaw received and smoked one of the cigars that i sent him. One was also sent to another BOTL I am told as well. As for Fred's opinion, here is what he sent to me:
So, I smoked one today. I can see why you thought they were fake. Bands look like shit, some even had some weird looking almost double printing on them. Draw was loose, and there was some harshness to the smoke.

But, in my non-expert opinion, what you have is just a rough tasting box of real CoRo. Behind the unpleasant finish on the draws until about half-way, there was the characteristic grassy/hay/honey profile persistently in the background. The draw was loose, which lead to some additional heat being generated that I would assume is the reason for some of the harshness. These cigars were rough in terms of smoothness, but the base of the profile I feel was there. I did manage to find a triple cap on each cigar, but admittedly on one of them it took a magnifier to find a corner peeking out from under another layer. Aside from the somewhat loose draw, the burn and construction seemed fine otherwise (burned consistently with no touch ups needed). The bands looked crappy, but when compared to others that I know are legit they were within an acceptable range of tolerance. The cigars were all exactly the same length and ring gauge, with the same wrapper color. I have never seen that consistency in street rolls.

I smoked another 14 CoRo immediately afterwards and while it was tremendously smoother, the background notes were still the same. Draw was somewhat tighter but not dramatically different.

I would put these away in your humidor and forget about them for a year or two, that may help round them out a bit, otherwise smoke them on the golf course. Sometimes you get a dud box, I think that's just what this is. Again, this is just my opinion, I could certainly be wrong.
