Fuente Anejos and that awful Fn tar
So I was talking with Cohim and the subject of the tars in Fuente Anejo smokes came up. :-X
It seems that well more than half of the Anejos I've smoked have issued horrible, bitter tars from the head during smoking that stain my fingers and lips, taste horrible, and make me feel sick. Usually, it occurs throughout the length of the cigar, despite dryboxing, recutting the cigar (often more than once), and a 65%RH humi environment. I've even had this happen on Anejos 5 years old or so.
What is the oldest Anejo you have smoked that had this problem?

I'm beginning to suspect that there is something up with Fuente's process that "QC" (notice the quotes) is not catching. I smoke plenty of cigars that are rushed to market, so it must be something beyond that.
I am truly stumped as I've had this problem through the years.

I've smoked through plenty, mostly 46's and never had this problem.

What are you doing differently than me? How old are they when you typically crack a box?

Stored right around 65/65, usually at least 3 years on them. I used to get a box every year but just don't smoke them anymore and sold them all here.

So it's been a few years since you've had one?
When I bought a few 46s and 50s that were around 5 years old on another forum and had the same issue with almost each one, I began to gain interest in this phenomenon.

Last one I had was maybe last year and that is from a box bought in 2008 according to my records, still have a couple somewhere.

Re: Fuente Anejos and that awful Fn tar
I've smoked a few dozen Anejos, variety of sizes & up to 5 years old, and have never had the tar problem. I have, however, experienced the tar problem on a couple of 3-5 year-old Opus, once really bad on a Fuente Fuente, but never on a fresh Opus (which I smoke more often than aged ones).

Smoked plenty of Anejos, always with a V-Cut, even the shark. Only had tar issue on the 888. Obviously no V-Cut used on that.
Be sure and make deposits in all areas of your life, because at some point you will need to make a withdraw. No deposits are more important than those made in relationships.
