Long story short. Son got his nose broken. Torn something inside that calls for surgery. Because of the Obama care, no surgeon in the area will do this surgery without getting paid first.
I am self insured, and pay out the fucking ass for it! The surgeons have been fucked out of so much money, they won't do the surgery till they have cash in hand. This is a fucked up system! :finger:

If you like your doctor you can keep your doctor.
We have to pass the bill to see whats in the bill
It will lower everyones cost by $2500/year
Remember the old saying '' if it sounds to good to be true then........''

Sorry about your trouble. Best of luck moving forward.
I'm in the same boat as you with personal insurance, high deductibles, and half ass coverage.

When you guys say self insured, do you just mean you purchase a plan by, like, going to the insurance companies website or something?

Self insured literally means no insurance as you're assuming all of the possible risks for in this case health. I'm assuming you're buying health insurance on your own from an hmo or ppo that is charging you insane premiums, has high deductibles, copays and has limited coverage for hospital.
Obama care isn't the reason these rates suck and they want cash up front. It's people who are literally self insured (no insurance) as well as underinsured that can never afford to pay the tens of thousands of dollars for surgery, etc that force rates up to compensate for lost money.
private insurance like the ppo, hmo or whatever you are purchasing must not be covering this and that sucks. Obamacare and Medicare will pay regardless if it's a necessity unlike private insurance. Though they will only pay70% in case of obamacare or 80% in case of Medicare. So you get stuck with the remainder which isn't bad until you have hefty hospital stays and surgery... Private insurance is a whole other beast that doesn't necessarily have to pay for anything depending on what you bought.
Obamacare is the excuse everyone uses now when they want to tell you the sad story of being underpaid and won't provide you with a service you need. Sadly it's all of the self insured that cost hospitals and doctors so much.
Best of luck and sorry to hear about your son.
self insured and insurance companies sticking it to us all day, in and day out ftw

My deductible and co pays both doubled when obama care took effect (I don't qualify for tax credits)... They had been within $100 of each other for 14 years between 3 companies.
The common denominator for the sudden increase in cost and decrease in financial assistance to customers who have used health insurance long term is not the sudden realization of hospitals and doctors that there are a lot of uninsured Americans,
I agree that picking up the cost for uninsured and under insured patients is a big part of why healthcare is so expensive (that is basic healthcare economics and has been common knowledge for decades). The LCD for the recent spike in cost and refusal of care is the implementation of Obamacare.
Denying that is fallacy, it is the only variable that caused the sudden change in the environment.

I work for a smaller consulting company and we hire a lot of high level IT contractors for 6-18 month gigs. Obamacare is going to crush us.

Can't have 1099 folks at most of our clients. The contractors have to be W2 employees of the firm representing them.
