Partagas GR Lusitanias - Real or Rebands?

Post by kenshiro »

So, I recently picked up a box of Partagas GR Lusitanias (images). The box is definitely legitimate, right down to the UV coat of arms on the tax seal:

However, an examination of the backs of the cigars reveals some monkey business.

There is a lot of glue residue on the backs of each and every GR band. The one on the far right above even has what appears to be a clear thumbprint in the glue. Even more egregious, some of these bands are glued to the cigars:

Highlighted above are a couple of examples where the glue has seeped out and adhered to the wrapper. Below, one of the recent purchase examples compared with a known good I bought at LCDH while in Europe:

This plus the fact that the seller recently posted an ISO ad for intact Behike, RASS, and PL Regional bands, makes me highly suspicious that these bands were removed from genuine Partagas GL Lusis and put onto regular production examples.

Seller claims these were bought from Rob Ayala. Thoughts?

Def one hell of a sloppy job on those bands, I've seen a lot of bad glue jobs but never any that bad where u can actually see the persons fingerprints (happen to have a fingerprint reader on ya, lol). My guess is as good as yours, but the iso post is definitely shady even tho he's a reputable guy. Sorry my input isn't very useful

The ISO  post is for custom rolls that I am getting made, and I wanted fancy bands for them. These were not rebanded by me.  I stand by these as genuine, and I purchased  them from Oz. If he is selling fake cigars the entire community has a problem with fake cigars.

Furthermore, if you look at the cigars, the quality is way to high to be regular production lusi. We have all seen sloppy gluing on cuban cigars. This just happens to be Cuba being Cuba.

Smoke one.

I recently received a box of PSD4's that were ugly sticks with some shitty applied bands. I picked the ugliest one and lit it up. It was ugly but real.

Is this the same box that was brought into question on FOH?

If so, has anyone deigned to smoked one, yet?  Especially someone who has already had a PLGR elsewhere (for comparison purposes)?

I don't maintain a collection of thousands of cigars, but I have smoked hundreds upon hundreds of Havanas and I have never seen such a crap glue job like on these - it looks like a Fuente product!

Looks like a Fuente glue job... I swear for being a high end NC shop I get Fuente sticks with ungodly amounts of glue on them all the time and I'm pretty sure they're not fake.

And let's be honest, the quality control on the pgr was not that high, the original video that Ajay Patel did has Habana spelled without the h on the original boxes shipped to the UK. Sloppy  glue work does not undermine the rest of the evidence  that these are genuine.

If your confidence is so high, then you should have no problem taking them back for the price I paid, as requested, and selling them to someone else.

My confidence is very high in what I sold you. I do not know if you rebanded regular production lusi, did a sloppy job, and are now trying to place the blame on me, get a refund and keep the actual gran Reserva. I do not know you, and frankly I do not trust you. I have been a member here for a long time, and the authenticity of what I have sold has never been questioned. I am not a vendor or an lcdh, you could have bought these from them but instead you got them from me at a discount.
