There is a REAL good free card on today. UFC Fight Night, it's headlined with Mark Hunt vs. Antonio Silva :nana: 10 televised fights! Starts with the preliminary card on Fox Sports 2 at 7ET/4PST, main card on Fox Sports 1 at 9ET/6PST.
Anyhow, I don't work for Fox or UFC, just a heads up for some solid free entertainment. But more than that, just wanted to see if we have any MMA fans on OLH? I used to love boxing and kickboxing growing up, but I was also always into traditional martial arts. When the UFC held their first event, it was a fantastic answer to the age old debate of which fighting style was the best. I love what the sport has evolved to over the years.
Any UFC/MMA fans here?

Cigar smokers do not concern themselves with such things. :angl:
But, if it will make you feel better, I will tune in just this once.

Haha, thanks JimBobber! What was I thinking, never in the history of man has a body enjoyed a cigar while watching a fight ;D
A beer on the other hand....

Wow! What a night of great fights!
Oh, um, I mean how terribly crude and violent! What drives civilized people to want to participate in or watch such brutal behavior? :angl:

I'm glad it ended in a draw, neither of those guys deserved to lose.

Agreed! Never has a draw been more warranted. That fight was insane, and really the whole card was off the hook. That was a perfect event. Next Saturday is going to be even more stacked too!!

I'm a trainer and have had a few fights.
UFC's problem is oversaturation of the market. There are fights every week. Casual fans can't keep up and even die hards, can't afford the PPV's at $55-$65 every other week.
The local pro and amateur scenes in various places are much more exciting.

BeltFanDan, I definitely appreciate your sentiments on over-saturation. Definitely a common issue with the move to Fox. MMA is my favorite sport though, next to MLB, so that just let's you know where I'm at lol. When you spend 4 hours a day on baseball, watching 10-13 fights a Saturday is nothing.
Joel - that's what I like to hear! I'm the same way, I watch every fight, every preliminary card, UFC, Bellator, WSOF, we have a strong local scene, lots of shows at the casinos near me... It's lovely.
No big MMA events I can think of this weekend though. However, there is Glory Kickboxing on Spike, so for those of you who don't like the wrestling/grappling of MMA, that's something to check out.

Huge UFC/MMA fan. I'm a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and I compete regularly in the FL grappling circuit.
I'm really excited about the Silva/Weidman rematch coming up after the Holiday. I have a feeling Silva is going to be all business this fight and it may be a quick night for Weidman.
Glad to see this topic come up!
