Hi Guys,
I'm thinking about selling a couple boxes, what is a fair premium for age? 5%/yr 10%/yr ? - I know it also would depend on brand, obviously a aged box of Cohibas would command more.
Cheers

I have always gone by 10% a year!!! Start with going price from the vendors then add 10% a year to that. Or if discontinued the price you payed + 10%
2013 Montecristo #2 - $255
2003 Montecristo #2 - add 10% = $510
2013 Montecristo #2 - $255

Yikes ! Doubling the price in 10 years ?! I know a couple folks who use 5% as a guideline, and the resulting prices have usually seemed doable for me. As to discontinued, I've seen some markups that I wouldn't consider paying even if it was a cigar I loved. I've been amazed at some of what's considered "what the market will bear", but, when all is said and done, I guess the buyer gets to decide if they are worth it to him.

I work off the figure of 5% on the price you paid for every year you've had them
If you bought them for RRP and they were 5 years old and ypu go to sell them 5 years later you should only charge an additional 25% instead of 50%
I got some 13 year old discontinued Diplomaticos duty free earlier in the week
If I sold them in 5 years I would consider a fair price to be whatever I paid plus 25% plus an additional 10% because they are discontinued.
That would make the price a little over $200 a box
That would seem fair to me

I hear you guys on the 5% but I have not seen that on HTF or Cohibas :o Lets say a box of Ramón Allones 8-9-8 Cabinet Selection on the 5% math. I would say in 2002 I would guess they were $225 to $250 that would put them at $350 to $400 now "if you can find them for that I will buy all they have ;)
But really it is what someone is willing to pay which sucks as if someone does have lots of $$$ and just don't care. Once and box has sold for that price it is setting the price on boxes to come. I believe that there are guys that will ask crazy prices just to see if someone will pay it. And that fucks up the market :ordr:

There is absolutely no doubt that there are 3 or 4 sellers on OLH who shoot out absolutely ridiculous prices in the hope that some sucker will bite. I really don't have a problem with this...as I stated above, the buyer gets to decide if it's worth it to him/her. But it does have an influence of future prices for those particular items if they sell, which is a shame as it prevents your average Joe from the opportunity to ever own that particular cigar. But this practice shouldn't surprise anybody on a wide open board in a capitalist economy. I also suspect, however, that some of these silly priced sales end with a statement by the seller that the deal was done, when it fact it wasn't. Lastly, I'd like to make a statement that is going to raise some hackles, but is just plain true:
The entire idea of "BOTL" is bullshit. I have made many lifelong friends from many boards, and I truly consider them brothers. We typically do our sales and trades privately. But the idea that just because another person, whom you know nothing about, should be considered or treated as a brother solely because you have a hobby/pastime in common is naive at best, bordering on stupid. The idea that because someone happens to smoke cigars that this would make them honorable, trustworthy, or even a nice guy skips the naive and goes right to stupid :)
I have many "bothers" who smoke cigars, but it was neither that fact, nor their ability to post on an Internet forum, that made them worthy of friendship. If you trust everyone based on the fact that they smoke cigars, you will eventually get burnt...deservedly so IMO.

I've noticed this after searching for certain HTF cigars. The same seller posts a couple of weeks later with the same inventory, qty, vittola, price, codes, etc. Very true

Re: Premium For Aged Cigars?
5%/year??? More like 10% on Cohibas and discontinued classic stuff like RA 898s, Partagas Lonsdalrs, Upmann super Coronas, etc... Pre '96 are worth at least 10-15x what they cost back then (Epi 2s were around $100/box in '95 and are worth around $1250-1500 now). All depends on the cigars.
