We all have those ever popular cigars that just don't suit us don't we? You know, the ones that every BOTL in existence seems to love, but just never did it for you. The ones that always command higher FMV because of their popularity, but you wouldn't give two cents for. The ones that never go on sale at any vendor 'cause they never have difficulty moving them. You get the picture. For me the first three that come to mind are the following
The Bolivar Beli Fino: Yes, beloved by many BBF does nothing for me. I've tried to love this cigar. Heck, I would have even been satisfied just liking it, but for me it does nothing and can't even hold a candle to the PC, the CE, the Imensa, and the occasional RC. For me it lacks the definition in various flavors within its profile that others of this marca possess. The word muted comes to mind.
Next up is the Monte Cristo No. 2: There, I said it! It feels liberating to toss this skeleton out of the closet! I've tried many vintages dating from the 90's to present and none wowed me that way an Especiale does, or even a No. 1 for that matter. They all seemed so one dimensional. Most recently I smoked one from 2002 and it was like smoking rolled ginger. Maybe I should have paired it with some wasabi and soy sauce!
And finally the Partagas Series D No. 4: Yes, the PSD4. Again, I've smoked a bunch from different years, and I keep coming back to the same conclusion, it's all spice in your face and no finesse. While the Partagas flavor profile in general is not for the faint of heart, I find that this cigar just comes out swinging and then ramps up from there. Maybe I just prefer a cigar that flirts with me a bit but give me an 8-9-8 any day! Even the PSP2 delivers more refinement then this bruiser.
So what about you? What uber-popular cigar that everyone raves about can you not find redeeming qualities in? Inquiring minds want to know! :)

Bill, the BBF for me has not been the same since the 90's. The Monte 2's I feel are coming back. The '86 Monte 2's I have had was one of the finest cigars I have had. The PSD#4 needs about 10 years of age for me to really like them, but I do then.

Perhaps you have a point. The oldest examples of the BBF I have tried have been from the late 90's and onward. Maybe '97's and downward were better, they certainly were for numerous other smokes.
With regard to the Monte 2's coming back, I've tried production as recent as '08 but I still no likey. Just gimme some Especiales and I'm a happy man.
10 year old PSD4's? Not sure I've ever smoked any that old. Tried a number that were in the 6-7 year old range though and my above assessments applied. Again, just my taste. I am open minded though. If you send me some 10+ old examples I promise to smoke them with an open mind! ;D

You are my hero. Not for the smokes you cite, but for having the stones to step up and say what is on your mind. I have been saying of the big faves that folks rave about are all smoke and only by coming here and learning in more detail can I find out what really should be in my humidor.
At Little Cuba, what I call my local cigar shop, the owner is getting ready to kill me for the info I am telling the guys I like. At the prices we pay (sometimes 300%+ what you pay) just because it says Cohiba does not mean it is going to take your breath away.
Cheers,
CB

I'm blushing here. I'm certainly no one's hero. Just a cigar lover with a big mouth and stones big enough to say it how I see it.
And you sure can't smoke the bands and box, so I never gave a rip what they say. Proof of the pudding is in the tast... er... smoking! Yea! That's it!! ;D
SKOAL BRUDDA!!!! By the way Bill, how are the wheels???
Depends which ones you mean. The knees still won't allow me to kick start the Harley. But the STS has been great. With Blizzak snow tires on it it's been a real bear all Winter!
