Shipping whiskey from UK to US

I'm going to buy two cases of Irish Whiskey that isn't available in the US. The distillery won't ship it to the US - only the UK and Ireland.
I have a friend in the UK who would be willing to receive the shipment, and forward it to me. But there appears to be some legal issues we could run into, but I'm not positive.
Does anyone here have any experience in having a case of whiskey shipped from the UK to the US ??
