Travel to the Dominican Republic (Punta Cana)

Traveling to the DR with the wife next week and looking for any info/input from anyone who might have been recently.

Would love to tour a factory while I am there, but not sure which ones allow tours.  I know Fuente is out, but what about others?  I have seen Tabacalera de García, VegaFina,  La Flor Dominicana, La Aurora, Davidoff to name a few.....Don Lucas seems to be very popular. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

And I won't even ask about CC there...I know to bring what I want to smoke, but would really like to experience a large factory

Also it's our first time there so any thoughts of other things to do would be helpful also.

Thanks in advance for help!!!

Never been there myself. But my sister and brother in law went there about 5 years ago and he was sexually assaulted by some citizens (butt raped by 4 guys apparently) when he decided to go drinking one night alone.

On a positive note, a friend of mine went there and had a great experience with the cigar scene.

Unfortunately no. I know several people here will chime in though with their experiences. Have a good trip!

Good Luck Al.

I was in the DR many years ago but I didn't do any factory visits.  Let us know how it goes lol.

I was in Punta Caña this spring, I didn’t do any tours or shopping I brought my own.  Main problem is Santo Domingo is about 3 hours from Punta Caña and Santiago is a flight or 6 hour drive.  The resorts in Punta Caña will do tours of Don Lucas. You’ll probably need to find a third party or private driver if you’re looking to round trip to Santo Domingo. There is a decent selection of AF at the Punta Caña airport but it’s about the same pricing as in the states and probably stored better stateside.

Edit to add that most of the big brand names are not sold on the island - their farms are tax exempt so grown for export only.  And most shops in Punta Caña are selling fakes, even AF, La Aurora etc.
