Friends of Partagas Dinner Week
Nov. 14th to 18th 2016
Trip From Nov. 14th to 20th (But you can leave earlier if need be)
I am posting this to see if there is enough interest to get a group from the board to go down and enjoy Havana and the event filled Partagas Dinners, all under an OFAC educational license of people to people cultural exchange. I discussed this with Wade a couple of weeks ago, and although work will prevent him from joining on this trip, he would like to see something like this become an annual excursion much like it is over at FoH.
I am cross posting this in the TSBC, but have it here so people can ask questions.
We would be touring the city and area during the days, visiting cigar store, factory tour, etc. There will also be many international cigar smokers visiting and at night, there is usually a meeting place (or 2) for smokers to get together and interact.
The activities for the Partagas Dinner are not mandatory, and all can be purchased separately. If you don’t want to do any dinners, that’s fine. Both dinners, great. One dinner…cool. The official schedule of activities is as follows:
-Day 1, Monday 14: Accreditation day at Partagas Shop. With cigars and
rum tasting. (Final day for payment).
-Day 2, Tuesday 15: Welcoming Dinner at Habana Cafe in Melia Cohiba
Hotel. Price 100.00 CUC.
-Day 3, Wnday 16: Beach Day in Club Habana. Price 75.00 CUC. Includes
Open Bar. Lunch and snacks, and great cigars to enjoy all day long.
-Day 4,Thur 17: Country Day. We will be visiting Hector Luis Tobacco
Farm in San Juan(P del Rio). Price 75.00 CUC. Includes tipical cuban
lunch, open bar, many cigars, horse ridding(optional), river
swimming(optional), and rolling cigars lessons.
-Day 5, Friday 18: Gala Dinner at Habana Libre Hotel (Salon de
Embajadores). Price 170.00 CUC. Includes great show, and Humidors
Auction.
(1 CUC= Appx. 1.163 USD cash)
First, I recommend leaving Sunday and staying and enjoying a Saturday in Havana.
Second, in the program I am listing below, I am including the beach day and Pinar del Rio trips into the cost. So scratch off $150 CUC there. The only thing different is that we should switch these days around and NOT go at the same time as the official group. We will do WAY more. Not only Hector’s farm in Pinar, but Salvador and Hirochi’s. I also am going to talk to Hirochi and see about getting us some face time and a smoke at his place. Lunch will be authentic criollo food with lobster, crab, and pork. Plus Miguel can get us cigars with better tobacco that the tobacco they are using for tourists. Plus getting to sample other great cigars from other places.
For a beach day, we should go to Playas del Este. If you want a “view” of anything more than water, Playas del Este is much better than Club Havana. Although this will not be open bar, I will make sure we have a good amount of beer and rum and some smokes for the afternoon.
Lodging will be in Casa Particulars, probably in Miramar maybe Vedado. Nice places with good beds. I need to secure these soon, as the more popular ones will go out fast. I was told last week that Rob’s group is up to 60 now, and his contact uses may of the same places I do. But no worries, I have others. But sooner the better for good quality.
Breakfast will be included and prepared at your casa each morning. Other meals and drinks are on you, except for lunch in Pinar del Rio which is included.
Good food will not be an issue. I will show you some amazing places.
Transportation will be included also. This is a big deal, especially if one is staying in Miramar….as you will learn quickly at night. We will have private drivers during the day up to dinner. In the evening, people will want to do different things, so at this time you would pay cab fare. Or I can get you a private driver for the evening. (But if you are going to 1 or 2 places only and staying over an hour in each place, splitting a cab will be cheaper)
Also, we will have our own private party night with beer, rum tasting, and cigars at one of the houses. This also is included.
Also included is a tour of Havana City in a beautifully restored classic car, and a tour of either Partagas or the La Corona factory.
For an idea of activates during the day, read the sample itinerary at http://www.cubalegally.com/cuban-cigar-cultural-tour
