Yep, read about that elsewhere. From what I saw, it's not quite over (appeals coming). Is that the case?

The fat lady isn't singing yet, there is legistlation in Congress to remove FDA oversight on premium cigars. The rumor is if that fails, Congress will try to change the grandfathered in date from 07 to a date further down the road.

At what point were cigars and e-cigarettes available to people under 18? I've never witnessed this anywhere in FL and you guys know pretty much everything goes down here.

They're not wasting any time enforcing it either. They paid Cigars and More in Birmingham, AL a visit this week explaining what the owner has to do to comply with the first round of regulations. It's bad and it WILL put cigar shops and many companies out of business. First off is by Aug. 9, ALL product boxes must have displayed a label warning of the dangers of tobacco use by the surgeon general. The label must cover at least 30% of the surface area of the box lid. Sample packs will have to have the same label in place. A sign measuring no less than 11 x 17 must be conspicuosly displyed where customers check out. No more samples, no free cigars and no more discounts. Shops will have 2 years to eliminate from inventory all product that does not comply with new regulations. Companies like Kristoff, GTO, Don Gonzalez, CLE are dead. Perdomo, Oliva, LFD to name a few will have to remove from the market any blends made after Feb. 2007 unless they apply for the unaffordable application fees per size and blend for approval. I've heard figures ranging from $30,000 to over $100,000 per application. Unbelieveable we allowed this to get this far.

They won't apply for new blends All of the NC manufacturers will do is stop producing the annual limited edition stuff and stop with the next of the 500th different blend to introduce.

It has next to no impact on me as if I've easily spent $5k on habanos in the past 2 years, I can't even think if I've bought a box of NC's from a retailer. You'll be able to get them from the cc vendors though

And that's just it - if you think there are a lot of vendors online physically located overseas now, just wait if/when this does become an enforced regulation. The amount of tax money lost may be significant. Plenty of Canadian (and other) smokers elect to buy from international vendors to successfully avoid taxes.

Necessity is the mother of invention.
