Humidity Levels in New Cabinet Humidor

So I am seasoning a new custom built cabinet humidor that is 9425 cu inches. I am running a Cigar Oasis Magna set to 70%. Wiped down all of the cedar with distilled water have a bowl of distilled water on the top shelf and a damp towel on the middle shelf. I have some RH beads on the way to keep it stable once I get it set.

I salt calibrated two digital Xikar hygrometers. I have one on the top shelf reading 70% and one on the bottom shelf reading 83% (closer to the Magna so it makes sense). My problem is the Magna remote, which is mounted inside above the top shelf is reading 58% humidity and is only about 6" away from the Xikar that is reading 70%.

I realize it takes time for a humidor, especially this size to season, but I am concerned that the Xikar is reading so much different than the Magna. Just to confirm the Xikars I swapped the one from the top with the one from the bottom and they both switched to the same readings of the previous one in the same location (I hope that makes sense).

I can adjust the calibration on the Magna but only +/- 9% and obviously there difference is much bigger than that.

Any ideas? Im thinking it all just needs more time for everything to stabilize out but wanted some input from the more knowledgable seasoned guys on here.

Thanks in advance for any insight or help you can lend.

I have a cabinet humi as well. I use beads and it keeps perfect 65%. I thought about going with a different system.. But it has held wonderfully on all levels.

I have a cabinet as well...Temp and Humidity controlled but it gave me issues, So I purchased a Hydra humidifier similar to the cigar oasis.  The Hydra hygrometer seems to be always off (10 - 15 percent).  I use the xikar wireless system to gauge humidity.  One at the top and one at the bottom of the cabinet.  I've always had big humidity fluctuations, so I found that the beads helped to stabilize around the desired humidity.  I also use several boveda pillows (especially in the winter) to QA/ QC the humidity.

Good Luck!

If you are keeping the system you have, I would do the maximum adjustment to 67% and you know you are off by 3%.

What I would do is buy Heartfelt beads using the calculator on their website to know how much beads I need, and purchase an extra  1/2 or 1 pound for quicker recovery when you open the humidor.

Throw that Magna in the trash. Any hygrometer that is only adjustable in increments of 9% is worthless. The solution to your problem is additional fans, on a timer, to evenly distribute the humidity, REGARDLESS of what kind of humidification system you choose...active or passive. Humidity naturally stratifies. Higher humidified air RISES. If left undisturbed, the TOP of your cabinet will have higher humidity than the bottom. I, and most folks I know, use inexpensive little computer fans.
