Ninja Got Me

I have really tried to avoid posting this because I hate tarnishing someone's reputation, but I have given him plenty of opportunities to resolve this.     I've heard all about Dallas's flakiness, but my first group buy with him went fine and even though he has had problems in the past, he has always come through, eventually.  That's why I have been so patient up until now.  That patience has run out, because it is October 11th and I still don't have a bundle of customs that I paid for back in May.   And seeing him organizing another group buy this week when I got screwed over just infuriates me.

April 25th:  PP'd a 75% deposit on 2 bundles from his upcoming May trip.

May 11:  Email from Dallas that the sticks were in.   PP'd the final 25% owed.

May 19th: Received package containing 2 bundles.  1 bundle was not what I ordered.  Emailed Dallas that there was a mistake with my order.

May 20th: Response from Dallas stating that he was “Waiting for this email since I was overstocked by 1 bundle, but didn’t know which order I messed up”.    He asks me if I can do him a favor and forward the mistake bundle on to its correct buyer?  I said “Sure, send me his address.”

May 22nd: Email from Dallas with the guy’s address and assurance that my missing bundle is “Going out today with a couple of extra sticks to cover postage".

May 24th: I package up the mistake bundle, drive it to the post office, and take $10 out of my pocket to send it to the correct buyer.

May 29th: Still have not received my missing bundle.  I email Dallas for the tracking number.

June 3rd:  Response from Dallas that he is "At the airport and was out of the country for the past week and couldn’t get email.  I will get you the tracking number when I get back to the house.”

June 10th: My email to Dallas saying “Another week has passed and no cigars, tracking number, or word from you about when I can expect to receive my cigars.  I'm beginning to lose my patience since 17 days ago I boxed up your mistake, drove it to the post office on my time, and took money out of my pocket to make sure someone else in the group buy got what they were expecting.  Yet, I still sit here wondering.”

June 11th: Standard email from Dallas apologizing and promises to “make it right”.  He offers to send me 20 extra sticks for my trouble and then he will send my missing bundle after his next trip to the island in July.  I tell him that "Sending me 20 extra sticks is not necessary, 10 will make up for it."  He ends with “Thanks for understanding. You are def one of the better guys here.”

June 17th: I receive 10 assorted customs from Dallas to make up for his mistakes.  I'm still waiting on my missing bundle.

**I watched the mailbox throughout July, expecting to receive the missing bundle as promised by Dallas.**

Aug 11th:  I send him an email asking if there’s “Any word on my missing sticks?”

Aug 15th: No response to my Aug. 11th email.  I sent another asking “Am I ever getting these sticks?!  I see from your feedback that others have gotten their sticks from your July trip!”

Aug: 15th: Response from Dallas saying he “Shipped those a long time ago”.  He says the tracking number shows them being delivered on June 17th.

Aug 18th: I respond by saying that “Yes, I did receive a package from you on June 17th.  That package was the 10 extra sticks you sent me to make up for screwing up my order.  When am I getting my remaining bundle that I paid for in MAY?!”  I attach our previous emails on the matter and told him to read up from the bottom to refresh his memory.

Aug 21st: Another email from Dallas apologizing for his mistakes and promises to “make it right”.  He ends with “My next order from Papo im supposed to pick up in 2,Weeks. You have already been updated to get 25 Robusto Extras then. Ill also see if I can get some bonus sticks to you before. If not, then I will add some when I get them.   Again you have been awesome and I am mad at myself that I missed this.  Just tell me what you need and I will let you know when I’m traveling.”

Aug 24th: My response is “I just want to get that remaining bundle so I don't have to worry about this anymore.”

Oct 11th: Not a word from him in 6 weeks and I'm done with contacting him.    I'm out $285, and at this point, I've written it off as a loss.

Interesting that he would go out of his way to send you a 10 pack instead of just getting you your bundle. Almost sounds like he either sent someone else your bundle or he forgot to purchase it. Sorry to hear this man. Good that you posted this now that he's trying to get a group buy together.

Not surprising.  There has been a ton of problems with his buys in the past, yet somehow he gets a pass.  Crazy.

I'm sorry you've had problems. I've been in the same boat; however, whenever I have emailed him he has replied within a day or two. There was a thread before about the same thing before.

Dallas will make it right. Whether it is the cigars you ordered or a refund.

I ordered some from him back in May and a couple from the group buys since.  Part of my order from May hasn't been available and I asked for a refund just at the beginning of the week and he had it to me in two days. He is a reasonable man. Things happen and it's Cuba. Not a lot of predictability.

Just keep communication going and he will make it right.

OK, so someone told me about this post here, and I went back and re-checked the emails to see what was up. I have sent an email to Andrew, asking him to call me because that is a lot easier than power writing.

I do want to touch base on a couple things since it was brought up on this thread. Most I have already talked to Andrew about. First, the whole problem started because 2 bundles got miss boxed in shipping. This is why I now inventory all sticks and separate packages before shipping out any boxes now. Even though I had all the bundles for the original size, after sticks were returned to me and I shipped everything out, I was still down a bundle for the monsdales in Drew's original order. Someone might have gotten a bonus bundle by mistake.

When I sent him some extra sticks, he changed his order from the bundle of mondales to an order of PR robusto extras. There seems to be the second problem, cause I marked off one spreadsheet not to do the monsdales, but did not put on the new spreadsheet to get additional PR robustos extra. The spreadsheets read, in essence, as order done with nothing pending. When Drew inquired in late Aug about them, I checked my current sheet and he was not on it. I checked the mailings, and saw a package went out, but as he said that was just the bonus sticks.

Since, I talked to him in Aug, no PR robustos extras have been bought back. My next order from Papo was set for mid Sept, but that date had to get moved because of some issues with a guy committing to another set of cigars being made just for him, and then after a long wait, changing his mind. So after that was taken care of, I left. Papo had perfectos and corona gordas, but no robustos extras. So I am still waiting for those. There is another guy here that asked for some PR robustos extras too on the last trip, and I had to tell him, earlier this week, that they were not available for a few more weeks.

It also looks like Andrew did not get the update emails for trip changes or of sticks not available, because he was not on that proper spreadsheet. Sometimes sticks aren't ready and I have to get them later. Even this time, I was going for a couple of things from Club Havana, and they have no cigars (customs) because Jorge had an operation and is off work at home recovering. And they have no other roller.

As far as not being on the right spreadsheet and communication, that is me and is an opportunity to improve. I will always try to improve it. I am far from perfect, and when dealing with tons of pm's, emails, and questions, it can get tough. Nothing is ever perfect, but I always try to work something out, get cigars people want, or make then whole.

As an aside, Andrew has never asked me for a refund, just that he would like the cigars.

Custom rolls take time, sometimes a long time. I've been in group buys with other sources that take six months and the guys basically tell you don't ask when they will get there. It's kind if the name of the game.

I've had good experiences with Dallas, and I understand communication will not always be there. I accept that going in. We've had some hiccups, but he's always been honest, and delivered, and I know plenty of trusted folks that vouch for him.

I have no problems with Dallas and will stand by my transactions with him. The one time I mentioned a refund it was offered immediately. Plus you can pay regular paypal if you want......

Ps...the hectors and papos are goooooooood... Wish I could get some more
Mons Jorge rolls  ;)

I am aware of the difficulty in obtaining customs.  If you look in the other thread on this you will see me defending Dallas and saying the very same thing.   There has never been any mention that the product wasn't available.  While I have been waiting for my bundle he has had 2 other group buys where he has taken orders for the same type of bundle that I'm owed.   What am I to think?    He is logged in here almost every day, but can't take a minute to write me an email?   He is always prompt with emails when payment is due, but once payment is made he's a ghost.   If someone took time out of their life to help me and fix my mistake like I did his, that person would immediately jump to the top of my priority list and I would do everything possible to see that he is satisfied.  He would also immediately jump to the top of any spreadsheet that I am keeping.

Dallas - I am sorry it has come to this, but I felt I had no other option.  I spent the summer emailing you trying to get this resolved and seeing your latest group buy thread, while I haven't received what's owed me, really upset me.   It's not about the money, it's about feeling like I have been wronged after I helped you out.  Obviously, since you referenced old emails, you still have my address.  Just sent me the bundle when you get it.  I won't spend any more energy worrying about it, when it comes it comes.

Andrew, I hear ya. Just keep in mind that of those 2 other GBs, one didn't have your sticks because of my error on the spreadsheet. The second did not offer that size cigar, and were requested separate and I do not have them.

You will get them out to you as soon as they are in my hands.

Can disagree with that. Although it may be a little late, I have put your name first on the new sheet.

That's not true. Many times I am not on here for 5 to 10 days in a stretch. Another reason I encourage people to email. And I checked our email, and it looks like I responded to all your emails either same day to 2 days. I know 2 days is not ideal for some people when I am traveling, on the island, or tied up with work/personal issues, but not a ghost.

And if anyone is wondering, I usually try to plan time blocks around OLH. For example, for 2 or 3 days I will be easily available. I only post GBs when I have time to answer emails and questions. I have delayed posting of new things for up to a week before, because I could not consistently dedicate the time to responses. I dedicate time after a trip, cause I want to get the packages out quickly.

I am not on here daily. Email is the best way to get me. I can respond faster, but if I am on a time crunch with another project that has urgency, then I will get back as soon as that is done. And when I drive highways here in Kentucky, outside the big cities there is not internet for the phone.

And that's why I said "Almost every day".  When I see you haven't logged in in a few days I figure you're traveling.  I begin to anticipate that I will soon get the sticks I've been waiting for.   When you return, I'm checking the mailbox expecting a package.   It never comes and there's never any word as to why.  I see other people leaving feedback that they received their packages, but I'm left to wonder where my sticks are until I contact you about it.  When I do, it's like you don't know what I'm talking about.  Then I have to explain it all over again and refresh your memory.  It's very frustrating.

If there are sticks outstanding since May, this needs to get settled. For sure it can be very confusing when doing large buys etc but that's not his problem and sounds like he's been patient enough. Go in to your own personal stock and settle it up if you have to. Running more group buys with outstanding transactions is in poor taste.
