Anyone else a cycling fan? Anyone else planning to watch/follow this one?
I've really become more of a fan of the spring classics than the grand tours, but TdF is pretty hard to resist for me.
After his performance in stage 8 of the Dauphiné I have to think that Contador is back on form and when he's strong he's hard to beat, and I don't like him. I think it will be a question of whether or not Saxo has the team to support him.

As an avid cyclist, I am disgusted by this competition of who has the better pharmacist.

Sadly this is still true. These "Doctors/Pharmacists" are creating new ways to cheat drug wise well before anyone can test for it.

First of all I get sick and tired of hacks who follow sports that require some kind of ball beating the same drum about drug use by the cyclists. Name one professional sport* that could stand up to the scrutiny the UCI pushes onto cycling and not result in far worse than cycling.
Cycling does not have a players union to let people stay dirty, cyclists don't race in a league run by team owners who have a monetary interest in putting steroid fed behemoths on the field for entertainment dollars. Mandatory two yr suspensions on first offence, really, do you think that any MLB/NFL team owner is going to sign up to the possibility of losing a $40M a yr franchise player because he pissed + for a PED? (and by the way I know the NBA does not do illegal drug testing for pot either)
Do I believe anyone racing at the to of professional cycling is 100% clean? No, not for a minute, but if anyone out there believes that the NFL, MLB, NBA, MLS, NHL, or any other professional sporting event with millions/billions at stake is "clean" then I hope that you have a great vacation with Santa, the tooth fairy and the Easter bunny.
What I do believe is that the UCI goes further and tries harder to keep the sport clean than any other governing body in sports.
Now with that out of the way, my system didn't record S1 but I saw the highlights, I think Cavendish withdrew to keep from being disciplined. He has got to be the dirtiest sprinter I've seen in decades. That crash was all his fault, he was leaning in and heading the rider to his left when they went down. If he injured and out he deserved it. (IMO) :finger:
Stage 2 was insane for an early stage, since when did they start putting GC stages in the first week? AND review the tapes, holy crap, Brits are FAT. That looked like the crowd they would get from a Walmart here in Tennessee! :boty:
* and by sport I mean something that requires real athletic ability, not golf, darts, bowling or billiards

Lol...I remeber watching it and thinking the same thing!
I also liked it when the guy was standing too far into the street with a camera hanging out right in the riders faces and one of the one riders pushed it right back at him. Like get this outta my fucking way I already have enough to deal with, like riding for 5+ hours!

I am a cyclist myself. I ride a specialized alley race for my roadie and a specialized crux for my cross bike. Haven't been watching the tour this year though. Been working to much this summer and haven't been in the saddle at all :tears:

Good god, Kittel is a monster. First of all it's nice to see a winner who is taller than the girls on stage, Kittel does it w/o the podium, Cav can't pull that off even standing on the top step of the podium. :nana:
Did you see Sagan just trying to stay on his wheel in the last two finishes, and Sagan is FAST. It looked like Kittel started his sprint from way too far out today and just out powered the entire field. I thought none of the leadouts got it right and he just drove home with everyone wishing they could catch him.

I heard rumor they were thinking they were going to re-instate Lance, but then re-concidered because he is half nuts.

Great rave today, but mother of road rash, that was a rough one, and I think it was worse on the tarmac than it was on the pave. I don't think they made a round about w/o someone going down, and more often than not a lot of someones.
The Lotto rider than endo'd into the crowd was pretty spectacular.
