I'll be in DC a couple of times in the near future. Is this place private/members only? I remember it being talked about on CF -- there was a community humidor or CF humidor there. Somebody cleaned it out and caused some problems, or something of the like.

Any new updates on this place? Thanks.

Eric

It is public - have the bacon blue-cheese burger.  Don'y know about community or CF humidor but individual have them there and I don't know if they have been "cleaned out"

They have updated the air handlers but that is about it.

They have individual lockers you can rent by year .  Not sure about availability as I am not interested.  They hold about 3 - 4 boxes is what I understand.

Mike is right.  The Bacon and Blue Cheese Cheeseburger is a must.

I was there last October.  Had a very nice time with good food and nice drink selection.  I'll be there again 3rd week of Jan in between my meetings :)

Thanks for the info everyone. Glad to hear it's public -- always need a place to smoke. The humidor incident happened a long time ago, before I joined CF (2000), but I read/heard about it when I was lurking. I don't remember the details though. Not important.

The CF humidor was started by Padron Slave back in 2000 and laminated cards were issued to first local members and then many established members from all over on the board. The Shelly's staff held the key and a log book for anyone who showed up with a CF card to access the humidor for a smoke and to leave a couple smokes.  There are many versions of what may have happen, but in all likeliehood the Shelly staff got busy and neglected to lock the humidor after it was used and it got "ransacked". Unfortunately it doesn't explain how it happened the second and third time after many of the local guys replaced much of what was ransacked. Kind of sad each time nothing or real crap cigars were left in the place of Opus, Don Carlos, PAMs, vintage cubans, Davidoffs, Avos, etc. Then it just slowly died and wasn't renewed.....CF history
