How would I go about it without damaging the cigars?

Most people I know who have done it double bag and freeze for a couple of days.

Most freezing will only lkill live larve and bugs, it will not kill the eggs, which can hatch yeras later, unless the temperature is taken to about -13F or something like that.  I beleive Lew Rothman used to do, and possibly still does  a fair amout of freezing at JR's to prevent beetle issues.  I seem to recall that he discussed the issue soemwhere.

After the freezing process, put them (still double bagged) in the refrigerator until they thaw.  Not good to bring them directly to room temperature.

Cliffs Notes:

Double bag and place in sub-zero freezer for 3-5 days

Place in fridge for 2-3 days

Remove from bags and let stand at room temp for one day

Place in humi for stabilization for a month to six weeks

Rinse, repeat...

Very interresting and informative. Do you guys freeze every box you buy or do you inspect you cigars on a regular basis? Am I worrying too much?

I inspect each cigar that goes into my cabinet and the temp control helps assuage my fears of unwanted hitchhikers.

I will add that I will put in fridge one day PRIOR to freezing in addition to what was said above.  Just seems it would be a little easier on the cigars if they are gradually brought down to below freezing temp.

I freeze anything that goes into my humidors. Been burned twice with beetle attacks.  Sometimes I will get singles and dont want to go throught the hassle of freezing.  Those will stay in a travel humidor till I get around to smoking them.
