Since I'm new around here I want to ask this question.  I have a few things I'd like to sell and was wondering, would it be ok if I gave the name of someone who is a member to vouch for me here who knows me from a different forum?

Why not? Especially if it's ok with your pal. It wouldn't be a bad idea, when someone refers you to someplace, to ask them right away whether they would mind if you mentioned their name while introducing yourself at the new place.
