And border patrol.
Basically saying a package with 40 was seized and I can either forfeit or try and have package released to me.
Guy on another board said do nothing, it would be implied guilty on my part. Anyone have experience here?
Thanks,
Bill

Was the letter sent via registered mail or did you have to sign for it ? If not, I would shred and forget, as there is no proof (except for this thread now) that you ever got their letter... obviously you don't want to call them asking for your cubans. I have read similar stories elsewhere, but your cigars are history, I am afraid to say. Hopefully you used a source that guarantees shipment.

Nope, just came us mail.
Looks like a shrewd on the horizon. Thanks!

If you respond, you might as well include a check to pay the fine; otherwise, just ignore it.
I'd only worry about the vendor. After I received a letter from the JFK Customs office in March (approx 35 days after an order), I emailed the vendor who then asked for a copy of my letter and I gladly emailed them a scanned copy, after blocking out my name and address of course; they thanked me and I had the re-shipment within a week.

Ignore it-that's one of your options as it just means you're not contesting the seizure. I don't know of anyone dumb enough that wants to take on OFAC for attempting to bring in contraband.

Jim,
I guess you didn't get any issues with the vendor, but I'm surprised the vendor didn't need to see your address at least to verify it was your loss. Otherwise a group could order similar stuff (mine just said 50 cigars, no other identifier) and then share a letter if someone got snared. Not describing myself, but seems like the vendor would want some knowledge to ensure it was you.
Regardless, I am not kidding, my female lab ate the paperwork while we were in the pool this past weekend.

Don't worry... the next letter you receive will be a little more official, and it will have an actual case number assigned to it... at least, that's what I have heard.
