I've ordered a bunch of stuff from overseas and I always read that "you are responsible for any taxes or added duties" but I have never been charged for any of this.  Do these charges normally happen for others?

Break your order into 2 parts?

I could, then I'd have to pay a crap load for shipping each lot. Would almost end up the same price as getting free shipping and charged an import duty.

I've never seen any charges for people in the states until last month. Several items coming in from the EU or Asia have been slapped with an import duty. On Cubans too lol

I have a box of stogies that was travelling to me since March 12th and then on March 14 it arrived at USPS and went inbound into customs, it stayed there until March 19th when it was then updated to Inbound out of Customs, and hasn't moved since then.  Typically when I see packages go into customs I have seen them take a couple days but once released they hit a local USPS office and then they are in transit to me pretty quickly. Should I be worried that they are stuck in outbound out of customs but no local office seems to have possession of them?  I'll keep y'all posted.

On another note Looks like COH cancelled my order from Feb after being in pending for almost a month and never even notified me.

Last box that was stuck “Inbound out of Customs” never made it, but the letter did.

This thread brings back memories of the aforementioned "Chicago Massacre." There were numerous CFers posting about shipping issues, so since I already had a sizable inventory,I decided to put the brakes on. Not long after that, news broke about the massive seizures at Chicago O'hare, which confirmed my suspicions.

I remember that aforementioned massacre, it was close to thanksgiving if memory serves me right.  I remember particularly one vendor that we were all using, and guaranteed shipping (1001 I think) refused to refund people and just ceased operations from one day to the next.  I had a box from that vendor in transit when this occurred and I was one of the lucky ones that escaped that situation. But I know a lot of friends that got burned.

It was dark and terrible moment for sure.

5 boxes in one shot?  Ouch! Sorry to hear that Mike.  It seems, and I've been saying it since last year, that seizures are at an all time high.
