Hey, more power to you. I've never wished a bad experience or unhappy smoking on anyone.

Look, if someone wants to claim that JO's cigars TASTE LIKE Cuban puros, that's fine. People do it all the time. Hell you can call them the greatest thing since sliced bread.
I have never said a peep about any of that. Ever.
But to say or imply that they ARE IN FACT Cuban puros, that's an entirely different animal. And I won't let that go unchecked, for the reasons I previously stated.

If you’re only concern is truth in advertising, think about all the other aspects of your life where you probably get fooled on a daily basis. Restaurant and supermarket food, clean air and water, addictiveness of medicines, religious authority figures abusing children, taxes, women, children, etc....

Yeah. I liked this thread better when it was just one guy being stoked on a cigar.

In this world, there are personal truths, and objective truths. People who sell personal truths, try hardest to deny the existence of objective truths, and sometimes even twist objective truths as personal truths. Regardless, the mark in the delivery is the same: nasty tone, demean the adversary, deny the possibility of being wrong. Those who simply reiterate the objective truths have no such need to be angry of defensive, because objective truths are a matter of fact, and enduring - there is no need to prove them.
In my journey dealing with people in this wonderful community, I have found that personal truths are pervasive, whether it is due to the lack of access to information, lack of ability, lack of curiosity, or a combination. Granted, it does not help that Habanos SA is a corporation that tends to spread misinformation in order to protect its product and core processes, and that most consumers have been disinformed by many unscrupulous vendors via their predatory practices.
So what is my point? Consumables are just that, to be consumed. If you are ok with the price of the good, and the benefits that you acquire from the good, enjoy it! No one can tell you how to spend your money. What is the point of trying to convince someone that Johnny O's are from - for sake of argument - a parking lot of a house, or a chicken joint in Havana? The same people who denounce the authenticity of JO, probably also go to Church on Sunday's. It is all relative, all preference - we are all sold something in life.

Without meaning to be provocative at all -- this seems to be incoherent within the dictionary definition of the meaning of that word.
You concede there is objective truth. OK. Let's call those "facts."
You also concede there are subjective truths for people. OK. Let's call those "beliefs."
Finally, you also seem to acknowledge country of origin would be an objective truth -- i.e. a fact. No room for debate.
What makes no sense is your concluding paragraph, which seems to go against everything you just established. It is not "all relative" or "all preference."
Either JO's cigars are Cuban puros, or they are not. This is or is not an objective fact.
And what makes it REALLY confusing is this statement: "The same people who denounce the authenticity of JO, probably also go to Church on Sunday's." Because people go to church do so precisely on the basis of their personal, subjective beliefs -- not objective facts?
So it seems very muddled there at the end.
In any event, most people would tell you that, at least sometimes, they put value on learning objective truth.
Others would also say there is a value in exposing hucksters and charlatans who misrepresent (directly or by implication) objective facts. Many see a greater good -
and a value to society in general -- in that pursuit.
Those, in part, would be the point.
It's as simple as the difference between puffery and fraud.
Guy wants to tell you his car is the best driving car on the planet -- well -- that's puffery.
Guy want to tell you (or lead you to believe -- wink wink) he has title to his car, when it's actually stolen? Well, that's fraud.
You may buy a watch from that guy on the corner and think it is every bit as good as a Rolex. Indistinguishable, in fact. So be it.
But there are plenty would care whether the watch REALLY IS a Rolex (and whether that guy on the corner is a fraud). And there are many good reasons to care.

Re: Novedosos from Johnny
Let's have a vote. I'll put up some cigars, and call them Cohibas. Hell, maybe I'll even toss on some bands. Why not?
As long as they taste just as good as Cohibas, that's perfectly acceptable in this, the cigar community.
Right?
