the Monte was just to young, to strong at times to taste more of the flavors. But I think it will grow into a very good smoke in a few years.

Montes always do.  Smoked my second and last #1 from '96 recently.  Boy were those some fanfuggintastic cigars.  Many thanks to the fine, fine BOTL that gifted them to me.

Construction: Nice light brown wrapper with a few small veins. Bit of a rough looking foot, worste looking one in the box. But still very well made. No soft or hard spots, good feel and smell.

Draw and burn: pre-light draw was just a bit loose. burn was perfect! :)

Taste: first few puffs were of a strong tabacco and coffee taste. about a 1/4 of an inch into it the tabacco and coffee were joined with cedear and spice. these 4 flavors continued to meld into a solid mix throughout the rest of the smoke. a bit of a leathery taste started to emerge at about 1/2 of an inch left. I nubbed this one so much my fingers are hurting. I would consider this one to be a solid medium strength smoke even after 10 years of age. I really enjoyed the hour it took me to savor it.

Score: I will have to give this one a 9.71, a very good smoke that is very close to the best I have ever had.

07 Opus X Perfection X

Nice looking cigar. Cedear wrapper came off easy to reveil a great looking medium brown wrapper with just a few small veins noticable. No flaws could be detected in the construction of this baby.

my Xicar sailed right through this one, did notice a small piece of stem, that was easy to remove with a pair of tweazers. Pre-light draw was a bit firm but not bad, bit of leathery taste.

First few puffs were full on power and spice. after about 1/4 to 1/3 of an inch it mellowed out some to a bit more pleasant smoke. I could taste quite a few flavors throughout this one. the spicey pepery taste dominated with an earthy leather taste being the second most distinguishable. after these the other flavors were very muted and could be detected at times. these flavors ranged from cedear, raisin, licquirish, a herbel taste I could not quite place, and a bit of balsa wood. burn was nice and straight with a nice 2"gray ash holding on.

over all this was a very good smoke, but just a bit much for me at its current age. I rate this one a 9.35 and will put the other 2 I have in the humi for a nice long nap.

04 R&J Exipition #4

Nice looking light brown cigar with just a few small veins. not oily but not dry looking either just kinda in the middle. Cut was great. prelight draw was perfect. smell was so enticing. I was so looking forward to this one. :)

the good looks were all this one had. Fired this baby up and was really not deteching much taste at all. a few hints of leather and straw. The first 2" of this were okay not really able to taste much but the taste were good. then hit the middle and things went south quick. Burn was still razor sharp and lots of smoke was flowing but the taste started to get bitter. the more I smoked the worse this one got. it was extreemly bitter and the amonia was over powering by the 2.5" mark. had to toss at this point.  :P This one still needed a bit more time in the humi. I will give this on a 4.1 due to nice construction and mediocure first bit. I think I will wait a long while before sampling any of the other EX. #4's.

WOW.  Sorry to learn of this.  I love this cigar as an early in the day smoke.  The light, floral flavors are pleasing to me.  And I've smoked many quite fresh and have never had a problem.  Perhaps I've just been lucky.

'98 Fundadore

This is one cigar that never seems to disappoint.  Impeccably rolled, beautiful triple cap with a little piggie poking out the top.  Nary a vein in the entire wrapper.  Draw was perfect as was the overall burn.  Light gray ash held on for one and a half inches at a time.

The first third of this cigar produced the light Carmel and vanilla flavors that I always seem to find when first beginning to smoke one of these.  This particular cigar also yielded some very light nutty flavors in the first third as well.

Second third was more of the same with some earthy leather beginning to emerge.  Carmella and vanilla dropped out of the flavor profile as these worked their way in.  Very light spice began to creep up as well, paprika perhaps.

During the final third, this cigar really opened up, as the aged Fundy always does.  Spice, while never becoming strong or overly prominant, came into its own and provided a nice bed for the other flavors.  These included more leather and earth along with nutmeg like samplings and coffee.

This is a very complex and subtle cigar.  It seems to constantly change and develop new tastes.  It is not an extremely powerful cigar either in it's body or its flavor.  It must be focused upon and attended to in order to experience all that it has to offer.  As always, this cigar did not fail to please.

Overall.  8.8
