Oh no? Go to CF and ask about a guy named Bruce.... :finger:

Todd, make sure you do your homework before making too many comments. You don't even know the story, but want to reference it. What you are reading know took place after he fled CF. The two issues are not even close to being the same. Where do you think we have learned so many things about con men and cottage sales, years in the past of dealing with it at CF. I understand you don't care for FG, but don't use examples you don't know anything about. That is why CF took a hard line approach to people trying to scam and make money off people. Sometime hard on newbies, but we protect the members. Even you make comments that you are not sure your skin is think enough for there. No worries, we only go after the crooks. Now back to your regular scheduled program.

Brad,
I don't know all of the details... but I did a bunch of reading last week, as all of those old threads involving that scam were rejuvenated. It sounded like that scam went down just like all other scams go down in this hobby...some great deals and quality service were provided on the front end, building the reputation, then, the bottom fell out. Obviously that took place over several months or even years in this case... it sounded like a pretty elaborate scheme, and I know it involved a ton of money for really high end cigars.
I won't bring it up here ever again, but its not right for FG to go around saying that stuff never happens elsewhere or specifically at CF. Scammers are everywhere, and it just depends when they decide to come out of the woodwork.
That was my main point, I wasn't trying to drag CF or anyone else through the mud, and I hope thats not what it seemed like. Thanks for my daily lesson in forum ethics. Oh, and what makes you think I don't like FG ? :angl:

Bruce is a member of a number of boards, not just CF. He hasn't been active on CF since 2005-ish. The cigars in question from him were not sold via CF.

I think thats one of the biggest problems here... people build reputations elsewhere, then come here thinking that the reputations they established elsewhere will work fine here too and they sometiems too, but usually if its only a trade or deal between 2 newbies.
I am only a member at CF and here, so I have no idea what goes on elsewhere, and I am aware of at least 4 other sites that people have referenced here, but I am sure that there are many more.

Yes Bruce's con was very elaborate and drug out carefully over time. They do often follow some of the same patterns. We have said it many times before, when something seems too good..........
We need to get together and burn one soon Todd.

No site is immune to scam artists, Cf included. The goal is to limit their damage and hopefully out them before they get too many people.
The Bruce incident is very disturbing on many levels. It does seem that he stayed away from CFers because he knew we would sniff him out sooner or maybe because he still felt some loyalty, I honestly don't know.
This has always been and always will be about protecting cigar smokers from scammers.
