Seems to me the folks who sell here with with 30+% profit margin should be able to self-insure.

That was going to be my second point above, I think if someone is selling at a profit it's reasonable to refund in that case. I think domestically no one is at fault so it should probably be split responsibility. That being said if I sent something internationally I'd want to do something to make it right I was just saying it shouldnt be expected.

It's a very interesting point. At what time does someone go from being an individual who is simply selling extra cigars or cigars they no longer want to a "vendor" who is consistently selling for a profit on the site? And should the "vendor" be held to a higher standard than the individual when it comes to shipping liability/responsibility?

I've often wondered what happens when Vendor supplied cigars are lost in transit and then replaced.
There are a number of CC suppliers who will ship to the US and guarantee shipping. If these cigars are seized or lost they usually either re-ship them or offer a refund
Do these retailers wear the loss or do they have some form of insurance that allows them to recoup the funds?

I've always assumed that the extra business gained by guaranteeing shipment justified any money that had to be payed out on lost boxes.

Especially the profit margin on every single box regular production or not the vendor see's. Cost of doing business.

I recently had an unfortunate situation where we had 6 packages delivered to our house on 12/10 by USPS and FedEx. The packages were stolen before we got home for the evening. One of those packages was a box of sticks I bought on another board and the others were Christmas gifts from major online retailers (Amazon and Toys R Us). A police report was filed and the big guys either replaced or refunded their stolen packages which was a very nice gesture. Understandably, the person I bought the cigars from is not in a position to refund or resend a new box of cigars. USPS delivered the sticks so their insurance does not cover it. I purchased them with a MasterCard and the woman overseas I spoke with at Mastercard customer service said I should dispute the charge which I felt was completely unethical. I did not want to stick the seller with that as they shipped the sticks and held up their end of the deal. So in this case live and learn...signature required or ship to my office going forward.

any consideration for a CCTV camera to cover the front porch?

In hindsight UBB I wish we had one as seeing the camera could have deterred the scumbag, thieving pricks. We are in a pretty quiet area and two guys were arrested in a the town next to us (Shelton) a few days later stealing packages off someone's porch. I called Shelton's police department and inquired if they found any packages from our town they replied, "We did not recover any packages in their vehicle from your town." When I asked if they had plans to look in their apartment/house for other stolen packages I was quickly brushed off the phone as that would be too much effort.
