True story, and happened a couple of hours ago.

Sister calls me from Casa Fuente in Vegas, would I like her to buy cigars for me. She knows I have the nutsos for CF's stogies. But I just bought some on here and cannot afford more. So I ask her to pick me up some AF Hemmingways, maybe some Maduros.

Salesgirl says they have some nice Signature maduros, I see they go for about $180-200 at Famous, so I tell her go for it.

She e-mails me back... Am I sure? They are $500 a box.

Pass.

*note, I see they are $349 at cigarsdirect.com, $232 @ Gilmour and Johnson (never heard of them), Cheaphumidors.com, $199

ALL cigar stores in Vegas sell WAAAAAAAYYYYY above MSRP.  In fact, Casa Fuente is one of the CHEAPEST places on the strip to buy cigars.  Opus elsewhere on the strip is often 50%-100% higher then Casa pricing.  Casa house cigars are priced on a level commensurate with the other sticks sold there, which, as stated above, are priced on a level commensurate with the surrounding area.  Many attribute this higher pricing to the inflated cost of doing business on the strip in Vegas, others just attribute it to a Vegas free market doing its thing and manufacturers that are willing to look the other way for the gilded status of selling at such high prices.  Whatever the reason, the prices quoted by your sister are indeed Vegas prices, have been for a very long time, and are likely to be for a long time to come.

Thank you for confirming this new information for me Knuck. She did pick up 5 CF's for me @ $20 a stick, so they must have some kind of promo tourist gig going on there. Matthew also said the rents must be absolutely killer there.

But wow
Great coffee, cigars and whiskey. Love them all.

Casa Fuente is a nice place... right on the strip inside Ceasars Palace.  The women there are beautiful and the bar is very nice.  I have only been there once but I was impressed, even though their prices were above MSRP.  Anyways, I bought a nice cigar, drank 2 very good Mojitos made by some goddess, smoked my cigar and left... and left very happy.  :bangin:

The only things you should be buying at Casa Fuente are mojitos and Casa Fuente cigars everything else is seriously overpriced!

Buying cigars at CF is like buying beer at the ballpark.

While these sentiments may indeed be valid I would remind you that it is still the cheapest place to buy cigars on the Vegas strip.  Noteworthy as well is that at other retailer's non-Fuente products are priced as high above MSRP as Fuente products are, invalidating the theory that Casa Fuente is driving prices upward on Fuente products throughout the town.  Doing business in Las Vegas is just plain 'spensive!

You guys should come up to a retail shop in Toronto. It would blow your head off.

This is why your issues about price on this board make me laugh.
Agreed. Which is why I say bring your own or by a Casa...
I concur completely and most often this is exactly what I do unless something happens to jump out at me while walking through their walk-in, (and at those prices this RARELY happens!).  I like the Casa line a lot, (particularly dem Lanceros heh!), but can't justify the outlay on a regular basis.  So it's nice to be able to sit there in Cesar's once in a while and enjoy something special.

Your problem (Toronto's) is the VAT and other taxes - like the UK.
Health laws what they are and such, as well, contribute to those fees.

Remember...'community'...that's why a stink gets raised about pricing...but that's really moot here.

The manufacturers get some money...the state/fed gets money...and the retailer gets money.
Why would I want to pay more?

slight tangent:
When you shop for a car or cloths or anything...why would you pay more than list price. In most cases you want to pay less - with coupons/sales/incentives.

The whole 'free market' discussion is fine but pointless when you have a list price and a formula for age. (Rarity throws in a whole other value.)

People here don't want to wait to find the product at msrp...they want it now. True with anything really.

I would also worry about googling those prices...they are all in different locations and have different costs. Maybe take an average, but if you base it off MSRP then you can see where you get value! Oh... there are shops that sell at msrp.
