Access, experience and network size has always created differences in acquisition costs.  In my experience the BOTL version of sales has been to purge things that you had more than enough of or didn't really float your boat.  Or a need to actually pay the mortgage. :)

Understand the perspective that there are folks here that flip relatively recent production cigars (and others) for the sole purpose of making a few (or more than a few) bucks.  This has always been around.  On many boards it was done more privately one on one and you don't see it. The fact that this is an open market place kind of highlights the issue for all to see and comment on.  Place like here and Facebook raise the overall prices as they establish a "market price" (Which is understandably questionable) that even the more altruistic sellers get exposed to.  That's the bad part.  The good part is that the opportunity is presented to a larger base and folks can buy things that they missed, or were too lazy to find at lower prices.

All that being said, this place serves a purpose.  Those speaking out provide balance and balance is good.  Now back to the sale threads. :)

any standard is a myth, invented on forums and by Brothers Of The Leaf( BOTL = watch your back!!!) total bullsxit - a figment of gougers's imagination

anyone trying to imply that there is a formula to aged/vintage cigars are trying to steal them and re-sell at multiples - be real

the market is what it is - all the complainers are just middle man - real gougers - watch out for those!

If you see anyone going down in price in any F/S adds = think again - those are ????

I forgot I even joined here back in the day. Tried to sign up after a Mark mentioned this place and realized someone had already registered my username. Me!

There’s people making money in every hobby, who cares. As long as the buyer & seller are happy, then whatever. I don't belong to any private forums or anything like that, just a couple of FB groups.  Always good to have more options to search for the stuff you like or would like to try.

Not quite sure what your point is.  The answer is I sold my company,  built a walk-in and have started to buy cigars again.  You won’t see any posts from me in the wts forum.

Came here because someone pointed me to the site to find something I was looking for.

I see both sides of the argument and attempted to comment from a buyers perspective.  Everyone is right.  But the site exists and has activity.

Regards,
Dave

Edit:  And I find Johnny o cigars to be tasty having never bought any in the past.  Plus after taking a long break from buying there were things I wanted that are more readily available here.

With some context, one could point blame at the London auctions for turning what used to be a lifestyle hobby into an alternative investment vehicle. I think this is why much of the older generation identifies with the muni bond-like yield of 5% per annum (or even equivalent to old CD rates), whereas this new generation of cigar speculators see cigars as investible commodities. I am also at fault too. I once bought cigars to enjoy; yet now it is tough to look at, ie boxes of Magnificos and not think, "jeez, that's 10x...I shouldn't smoke that."

No one has to justify himself in the free market. There there will be the opportunists, there will be the fools, there will be the mean, and there will be the erudite. Find a group that you identify with, and enjoy your life. It is what it is.
