Here is some home work for the rejects.. Find me as many bottles of pappy at retail as you can... Until then STFU and try and understand that Pappy as it's own market for price/supply/demand.
[/quote]
Scott, you are correct, there is a huge market and just as big of a mark UP. If he said he was out to make a buck on the supply he had so be it, but that isn't doing anyone a favor in my, and many others books (And if this was me instead of Pete he would agree)
The problem here isnt what Pete was charging, as much as the he paid XXX and was charging a hell of a lot more than XX, I have no prob with him making money but dont piss on someone and then say it's raining. This wouldnt have been an issue if he didnt post his prices on CF, then when called on it changing the story. I have known Pete for 15 years, he is a big boy, but if this was someone else he would have a comment or two as well. TRUST ME. fishingfor5 is a perfect example.

I am not defending RI, IMO he set himself up for this. His approach was wrong but his prices were still fair. It's the reason why I would never sell it on Cf but I have sold many bottles at retail to some Friends there. It's the morons that can't understand basic econ 101 that get me.. It's always nice to add a little life here.... :nana:

You're right. I'm wrong and a gouger. Except for the fact the prices I posted on CF were for the first batch I was able to buy locally. After that I had to go out of state, pay much higher prices, then add 30+ bucks to ship 2 bottles.
And to close the loop on this discussion, why don't you check with Rich L and Paulie from Brooklyn on how m much I took advantage of them. :D

Ok so you hooked Rich and Paulie up, great job. I may have done that once or twice in my life as well, which means dick to this conversation. Now I ask you if say "khomeinst" (no offense bro, your name was on top of users online) did the same thing would you have made any comments towards him that others had made towards you here? Luckily i dont drink the stuff, and I could careless if you made $500 a bottle , just the hippocracy that irks me.

It's more than obvious you have never bought Pappy before. The market I am talking about is the US. If you want pappy you and try your local store. All the stores I know in a few states keep it in the back and have a long waiting list for them.. They never hit the main shelves. Next is eBay my prices are based on eBay, craigslist and Private boards.
You post some worthless web site that doesn't ship to the US and probally do not have in stock. I know a ton for wed sites that have opus x too bad there not in stock.. If it's that easy to get, get as many cases as you can and I will triple your money.....
Ask Santa for a life and a clue your lacking in both.

I bought a bottle of Lot B and a bottle of 15 last night and I currently have 20, 15 and the Rye open in my cupboard. I also have another 12 or so Rye - 23 decanters in storage from various vintages. I've been buying Pappy from places all over the world for the last five years and know a little bit about the topic on which I am posting.
I know its hard for you to believe me, but you are out of your element on this one. Your frothing at the mouth style of posting betrays your blatant lack of knowledge. Most obviously, you are citing eBay. Surely as an avid "market" watcher you know that eBay no longer allows the sale of alcohol. The prices you see there are for empty bottles. Again, its tough to be wrong, but its ok to admit it. You just don't know what you are talking about here. With very little research Pappy can be had for a fraction of the exorbitant prices you made up.

Scott, when that seller explained the specifics of his situation (MSRP + crazy local taxes) I apologized. Which I do whenever I've been wrong or mistaken. That's not the case here.

Lets educated you about ebay. First try searching compleated listings. there are bottles being sold, it takes 2 hrs for ebay to remove the listing.. Most times they are gone before that.. I have bought and sold many cases of all the ages over the past three years. The profits have funded a Scoth collection you could only dream of. So the offer still stands if it's that easy.. fine me Pappy, I have a long list of poeple that will pay those prices and be very happy they did. If anything Pappy is much harded to find this year for most people, With ebay new policy it has only driven the price up. With no RYE being produced where are you finding it//

Shipping two bottles shouldn't cost you $30, but we can ignore that for the sake of argument. Your basic contention is that you drove out of state to buy Pappy as a "favor" for people and that the stuff that you bought was much more expensive than the first batch. That just doesn't seem to make any sense. In your CF post you were complaining about a $5 price increase on Lot B to $60, yet you travel out of state to buy some for people as a "favor" and you pay close to $100 for the same bottle? GTFO... You profited and now you are acting all righteous about it.

Looks like you have never shipped bottles either.. I just shipped on bottle to CA and it was $22. Now take all the care and materials to insure it gets there unbroken. AS for europe will will cost you $41 for 1 and 12.5 per for a case. I suggest you just walk away now..
