I think a marked difference should be noted if comparing John and Dallas. John already has the cigars when posting an ad...Dallas is organizing a "group buy" for which the cigars have not even been rolled yet. I understand John's issue, as it begs the question: How can you advertise cigars that you don't even have, and may not be able to get ? This being said, I have bought many of John's bundles, but never choose to get in on Dallas's "group buys". I've never heard any claims of poor quality from those who buy through Dallas, but every single expedition results in "wasn't enough leaf for..." , "partial order filled, expect remainder next trip", all kinds of problems that result in people not getting completely what they were led to believe they'd get....with a 75% deposit to boot ! Not knocking Dallas, as I know many satisfied customers, but to compare his and John's operation isn't apples to apples. Anybody here get an order from Dallas 6 days after ordering ? :)

The purpose of my thread was to bring it to Dallas attention there are quite a few out there that are unhappy with the situation.
There are 1000 things that have been told to me, mostly negative that I would never repeat.
This thread isn't about me, competition, who's better or who's worse. I provide one thing he provides another.
I cant do what he does, you need a lot of time for that.
My "concern" is that lately I have been getting way too many messages on his product that I have to respond to. Its not my responsibility to babysit Dallas's fuck-ups. So it was my public way of letting Dallas know he has a lot of unhappy campers. It may rub some of you the wrong way, but then again a lot of you took forever to speak up on TL. John

John, I have always had respect for you. If you wanted to bring something to my attention, then you should have emailed me. If you are responding about my product, you should really tell them to contact me. After all, I obtained the product. Babysit...really?

If people have any questions about cigars sent to them, then they should contact me. If they don't, I can't control that. You fielding questions for me.... man, please don't speak for me.

And as I have always said, anyone that would like to travel with me is more than welcome to come and see what goes down. I like the company.

I guess I don't understand the issue you have with Dallas as he posts in advance that it's for a future trip.  My 2 buys were delivered about 6 weeks IIRC.  I ordered a bundle that he couldn't fill the full amount and refunded the difference promptly, so I don't see what the issue is here.  As far as the deposit, I sure as hell don't blame him.  It's like selling on here or craigslist-all sorts of window shoppers, but without money in hand, you haven't sold anything.

First of all, I don't know why people are sending you messages over something purchased from someone else.  That'd be like me contacting Oz for something Ravi did.  Otherwise, it's just a bunch of hearsay and rumor mongering.  Just direct them to contact Dallas. Pretty simple if you ask me.

Apples and oranges.  Dallas tells people who exactly is rolling the cigars he sells.  Timing and communication could be better, but most people know this before paying.  If you don't want to deal with the timing, don't buy.  With John's cigars, provenance isn't given.  Most people know the origin but it's not told in public.

Now if John is suggesting the provenance isn't true, then speak up.  :)

in what translation program did you get from "I'm not knocking Dallas" to me having an issue with Dallas ? That's not even spin...maybe bizarro ? I merely compared the two business models. Both seem to be satisfied with how they do things, and both seem to have as many customers as they want....but one is more successful, over a longer period of time, with more satisfied customers (and less dissatisfied ones), while the other has threads like this about him and, by publicizing sources, jeopardizes there very freedom. One is a good business model, one is not one I would choose to use. That doesn't make the one I wouldn't use bad, or evil, or dishonest...just less than ideal for someone who understands business and math. Hell, there are folks here who think Dallas is a cool dude, doing them a favor. Isn't America great  :smiley-cool:

Totally agree, apples and oranges, two different business models coincidently selling the same or similar product. With the product being so similar, though, it's difficult not to draw comparisons. And I WAY agree with your sentiment of "if ya don't like the deal, don't buy". But I'm sure you're not saying that if one chooses not to use a specific vendor, then they shouldn't comment on why not..right ? We've already got Price Police...I doubt the BZ is the place for Comment Police :)

As to provenance. I don't know what John's intentions were in the OP....I was commenting on the difference in the two business models.

Have you ever put a deposit down on a car ? A house ? A boat ? A wedding dress?
Was it ever 75% ??? I have trouble even calling 75% a deposit :)

forgop...you like Dallas have missed the message. The BOTL's that have approached me are not on the fence undecided. They are pissed off and have left the building. Send them to Dallas, WTF am I his customer service manager? You keep drinking the Koolaid, many drank the TL Koolaid until it was too late. BTW, Hutch was the 1st to tell you "I told you so" on that one. John
