Honestly, if I was someone creating fakes, I would do just this. Simply because 99% of buyers out there would not question it vs. a box of Cohiba Esplendidos or better yet GR that would get heavily scrutinized.
Now, do I believe someone out there is actually doing this, probably not.

Sure, I see your point, but there isn't much profit margin there...not like a 400 box of Cohibas or Cohiba ELs. The fake Cohiba 1966s I received in a group buy, 2 years ago, sold for around 300 from a known Spanish vendor (CTO) looked pretty good...without digging in real deep and comparing packaging from another vendor, most people would not have noticed the very subtle differences--they were good fakes, even down to labels and packaging. The only way to tell was to smoke one and find that they were truly dog rockets... but my point is this--with all that is required to fake a box of cigars, including the box...it hardly seems worth it for thieves to fake a 100 dollar box of sticks after considering the bill of materials involved to do it.

Saw a box of fake 2005 Party Coronas before. Who would think to fake those?
Anything that can be sold for profit could be faked.

Travis, and if I remember this situation correctly, weren't these from a known reputable and popular vendor?

That's what I was told anyway.

The missing end label didn't even make me bat an eye. I rec'd 6 boxes of PLMCs and one of the boxes was totally missing the end label that identifies them as Montecarlos. The reason the MCs box was no surprise was that over the years I've probably rec'd a1/2 dozen boxes with something missing. All, including the MCs, came from vendors with spotless reputations, besides the cigars in the mis or unlabeled boxes smoking exactly like any other of the particular vitola.
Between the brand and the size, I'd have to say it's VERY unlikely that either were fakes anyway. Nobody, with a brain, would fake a super low demand cigar, with a super low margin. That would be like counterfeiting $1 bills :)
Now, show us some Monte 2s or Cohiba Robustos, and there could be a problem with a box. JMNSHO though :)

Yes, anything that arrives that is ugly or falls into the "Cuba being Cuba" category, I just smoke it myself.
[/quote]so are you saying that even from the same shipment /crate there were significant differences in boxes?
:tears:

I think the better question is this:
Would anyone bother to fake a 100-120 buck box of shorties like these ??

This of course.

Did these come from two different vendors? I think it's interesting that one of them has the micro print scrapped off and the other does not

That's nothing out of the ordinary. Ive had boxes from the same vendor have codes sractched off and others with the barcodes intact.

I can confirm the above as I've had similar experiences.
I think it has to do with vendors receiving boxes from outside territories that they aren't supposed to and so they get rid of the trail. Something like this. Basically hiding the original recipient of the product from HSA.

Both boxes had the micro print scratched out. Both had the barcode removed. They came from the same vendor in the same shipment.
