so even though the guy never said he wanted them you guys want to burn him? maybe he was asking because he was thinking about it. Maybe he was caught up at work, in traffic, picking up kids from school, doing real life stuff that he couldnt instantly respond. Maybe he decided against them and spaced getting back to you. Did he ever confirm that he wanted them? No. So in reality he didnt back out or flake on a deal.

Some of you need to take a step back off the keyboard..... :tears:

^^^This, and all of it. I will plagiarize the hell out of it.

Even if this isn't 100% applicable in this case, it certainly is in many others.

If someone develops the habit of being a deal-blocker, I would want to know about it so I can ignore that person's PMs.

If no one posts feedback that a user does this, then such a user gets a free right of first refusal on everyone's deal by merely asking, "Are they available?"  It's jackassery.

Just to be clear to the last few posters this was the seller who did this not me. I wanted them, told him so and was waiting for a reply about how much for shipping. I have made contact with them again and I believe this will be worked out.

It takes 30 seconds to send a PM, or answer an email with a simple "no, not interested", "I pass on these", etc... everyone has smartphones (OLH is on tapatalk too) and the capability of being "connected" wherever they go now.  My feeling is this--if the seller bothers to respond to the initial PM in an efficient manner (a few minutes or less than an hour), then the potential buyer should do the same, out of pure respect.  Like someone else said here, if a buyer expresses interest, and the seller thinks they are sold, which I would have thought just like Mike did here, then that could prevent the sale from happening at all (deal blocking).  Good communications in any sort of transaction is important... some people communicate well, some are very poor at it.  I really don't expect that to change though, especially through a BZ thread.

Leave him bad feedback... I did that with a guy here not long ago who dicked me a round for a few days on a purchase... then when he actually made the purchase, he put "cigars" in the PP info... gee thanks.  Leaving honest feedback warns others of his unwillingness to complete deals and lack of communication is a big problem with a lot of sales here.  I have a nice list going of idiots I won't deal with here and elsewhere.

I don't think this situation warrants bad feedback.  I may be wrong but this doesn't look to me like there was ever a "deal".  Nobody backed out on anything, just some less than ideal communications.  Keep the traders comments related to something a bit more concrete than this.

"Do you have them"? is close but not, "Do you have them?  I'll take them".

Sure, the question would lead one selling something to think that someone wanted to buy.  What's the point of the question if you're not buying, but it's still not a commitment, so unless there is an "I'll take it" they have no claim if another offer comes in.  I wouldn't like to see things here get so rigid on the forms of communication.

The same thing happened to me about 4 times in the same week. Twice from two well-established members, who I have dealt with before. In the first two times, I considered the items sold. After 48 hours and not receiving payment, I put the items back for sale. After that, every time someone ask "Are they available?", I responded with "Yes, they are" without assuming they wanted the items. It is a bad form of communication, but it is not worth it to be upset about it.

People are so self-centered and put no value on other's time anymore... that's really one of the biggest things wrong in this country today.  A lot of people are just living in their own little world... I gave up trying to make people care years ago.

Shit happens.

Just they other day I was interested in a box and the seller told me he may still have one for me. I ended up waiting a couple hours for a response(no problem) but when his response came back I was on the golf course and couldn't respond. Several hours later I responded and we made the sale. This seller had mentioned there being a line behind me but still held the box until he knew whether this deal was gonna go through. I'm very apreciative he held and I do see the problem with a buyer backing out several hours later.

Shit does happen.

Another time I was on vacation and was interested in a sampler so I sent a pm to the seller and asked a couple questions about the cigars. At the time I made the initial pm I was in my hotel and left a bit later to enjoy the day. I found later that night he sent a "they're yours if you want them", I then said I will take them. I got a pm in the morning saying someone else is pending. I offered to pay right then. An hour later I received a "sorry they're sold".

Life/shit happens. Don't get too upset. We all have different timelines and priorities.

Feedback is for transactions/agreements.  In this case, the guy sent a PM asking about cigars but never said he will take them for sure, and especially, no agreement was made.  Sure he was a douche for sending a dumb ass question and then not responding, but no way was this an agreement gone bad where feedback should be left.  Mike was being nice giving this douche time, but I've learned over the years unless someone definitely says they will take them, I move on to the first person that says so.  I will give exceptions if someone has a valid reason, but something vague like that, no way.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here:

Maybe it's because I don't chase down much in the way of EL or RE, and I sure as shit don't smoke Ligas, Padron Anniversaries, or HTF Tats, but I've found enough people on OLH with great feedback to where I don't have to deal with poor communicators, newbies, and other assorted balloonheads.

We're placing a lot of trust on each other by sending and receiving fundage and our treasured sticks.  Golden Rule, people, and check your scumbag list/trader comments/battle zone/etc. to avoid the potholes!
