It's the same material as the beads sold specifically for this purpose from what I've been informed. I've had zero issues and you can't beat the price as opposed to what's offered

While it is undeniably silica, and I have no experience with HCM, the Heartfelt beads are true to their rating. I.E.: The 65% beads maintain roughly 65% RH and the 70% beads maintain relatively 70% RH - barring any macro environmental spikes. I've got three humis @ 65% and one @ 70% (for NCs). All four are Heartfelt and all four perform according to spec. You can even over/under water the beads and they'll still maintain the target RH.

Re: Storage question
So with the kitty litter it sounds like you have to zero in on your sweet spot, much like the oasis humidifiers of old?

OK. Here is what I have going on till my Liss-a-dor comes in. A friend of mine hooked me up with some Boveda 69rhhumi bags. I put one in my 100 desktop, 3 in my 500 chest, and 4 in my big chest humi. I have 4 full boxes in there plus 80 or so loose sticks in the big chest. I took the rest of my boxes to the storage facility down the street. (they do wine, cigars, furs, and god knows what else is in there. I am still going to order a truck load of heartfelt for my loss-a-dor. I believe this is the best fit for me at this point. I may even ask arlin to make me a false bottom with a fine mesh screen, or a silk screen bottom to load the sucker with the heartfelt beads.
I hope this will be the right direction for my cigar collection. :)

just fyi, Boveda recommends one pack per 25 sticks plus an additional pack for your storage device, i.e. a 100 count humi would "require" 5 Boveda packs... and b/c it's a 2 way humidification they are quick to state that the more you use the better off you are as it requires less work of the packs themselves... not saying you have to follow this, but if I understood you correct, 1 pack for a 100 count humi might be way under, not sure it could "keep up"... others might disagree?

Well since I have a whole box of these things, I may as well put them to use. Thank you again for the great advise. It's awesome to be learning new stuff again.

Re: Storage question
In my experience, the Boveda packs work well, you probably can't have too many, and they ARE rechargeable a few times, but they are SO DANGED expensive I've never bought one (only used ones gotten through purchases/trades).
If you've got money to burn, the Bovedas are fine. Me, I bought the beads as a one-time investment and spend all my disposable income on cigars!

Re: Storage question
I can reuse Bovedas over and over. Have only thrown 1 or 2 away. Recharging is a breeze and you can recharge them to twice the size they were when new.
Be sure and make deposits in all areas of your life, because at some point you will need to make a withdraw. No deposits are more important than those made in relationships.

Holts sells the bricks of 20 packs for $60 shipped, tough to beat and easy as hell to use
