Wow this thread really backfired.

Slightly  ;D

But a good lesson learned by all.  Like Brooks, I might not have smoked ALL of DPG's stuff, but I have smoked a TON of it, including almost all Tats, 601s, OR Padilla Miamis, etc etc etc etc etc.

Reason I like the My Father series and El Cs...A bit different from the normal Pepin profile, again, like Brooks said.

Brooks....some day you need to release a "DPG Blend Top 10."

I am curious to see what others think about the DPG stuff and how its aging...  I keep my Tats and DPG sticks and my other Nics at 69%, and I think a few of the Viaje lines are aging well (Oro and initial release S&B), but some aren't (like the Exclusivo Jar Robos).  I have read alot of people saying that Tats have a shelf life and lose some of their good flavors after a couple or 3 years, so that must apply to anything from Nicaragua or rolled by DPG... unlike Cubans which seem to peak at the 8-10 year point.  I have already seen some decline in quality in a few of he boxes of Nic sticks I have aged for over a year or two now.

I don't know if it matters, but there are actually two different "Special S" cigars, and each are different blends...One is an event only cigar, and one is being sold by large cigar stores (but was only sent to them)...

I really enjoyed the couple I had (with the band that looks like the Centurion band), but have not tried the other one as of yet...

I cant see any difference between the band on the events cigar & the one sold online.

That's why pepin has a long way to go to catch up with the Padrons.  10 year old Padrons are heavenly.  Time will tell about pepins stuff but I highly doubt it.

.... It really shows you the aging potential of Don Pepin's sticks.
The crack up is that in general DPs haven't shown much if any aging potential and as the "greatest" cigar of the bunch, the price going down sure doesn't support the exaggerated praise of the cigar.

For the price, there are hundreds of cigars which are better.

I have seen these sell for 350 to 400 a box.  75 bucks for a fiver is a great deal.  And you can see they sold fast.  I am far from a pepin ho, but these babys are
