See, that's just my point.  A friend of mine's daughter was raped earlier this year... my daughter has never been raped.

If my friend's daughter had exercised some common sense, like my daughter has, she never would have been raped.

There's no need for any kind of protections or warnings or penalties.  If she can't exercise common sense by not wearing certain clothes, or by not believing what certain people try to talk her into, or by not going certain places... then that's her fault.

My personal definition of "common sense" in the context of this conversation is a mixture of all the elements: I am personally responsible for EVERY buying/selling decision I make. I do not expect, or even desire others to shield me from poor decisions, or reimburse me for losses due to poor choices. It would suck, but no one else is at fault.

However, when someone of greater experience and knowledge, someone with proven pedigree of tracking scammers, a person who is widely respected in the parent organization of this forum, is willing to invest his time (no matter how abrasive his intro.  :angl: ) to make my chosen forum a safer place, in my opinion the common sense route is to accept the help. I get both...my own natural caution keeping me from risky buys and threads that sound too good to be true, and the knowledge that there are botl who got my back in the forum.

So if your daughter does get raped, does it mean she's not exercising common sense?  And thus it's her fault?  Because I agree!

Also, based on what you've taught your children to do, are you saying that people who are inexperienced in certain areas may need guidance, input, and help?

See, I agree!  In fact, I think you shouldn't even be giving your children any advice or guidance when they are inexperienced in some area.  Let them do their own research and use their common sense to figure it out!

Oh, I never asked anyone for help.  That would be a sign of weakness.

Here's the thing I can't quite figure out though... how can you do research on something without it looking like you're asking someone for advice?

I mean, someone had to write down whatever information you're researching in the first place, and so anything that I find out "on my own" is basically just someone else's advice or experience anyway.  What's the difference?

I guess since "doing my own research" is essentially just depending on someone else's experience/expertise, I shouldn't bother with that either and just rely on common sense.

And that's the other thing.  I think people shouldn't write down anything that they have expertise in.  That sounds too much like offering advice when it's just not needed.  Common sense alone should do it, we don't need guidance or input from anyone on anything!

This is an internal struggle I deal with on a daily basis.
