The biggest issue I see here is that people consistently pay with friends and family. If a seller insists, I just won't buy. I always pay the fees and check off goods and services.

The modus operandi of this scammer isn't unlike what others have done. Sell small orders. Build up a few months of feedback. Then go in for the kill with HTF or expensive cigars. Hell, for all we know, it's one of the same who has hit before.

Yup.

As I said, you look at the feedback history and see sales for run of the mill stuff.  Out of the blue comes a post for ultra high end stuff that if someone was going to unload, it would be a high end auction house, not here, unless you know the pool of suckers here is deep and wide.

And they've proven time and time again just how deep and wide they swim here.  They know it's like throwing a chicken into a pool of piranhas and can rake in $20k/week after building up feedback over several months of low end sales.

This!!!

Born every minute, there are new folks to scam.
With out a 'forum' and some guidance...a fool and his money are soon parted.

The red flags are not always obvious...but if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck...it damn sure isn't an elephant!

Yep. It's likely not a coincidence that these sorts of scams are vastly more likely to show up here than elsewhere, too.

And yet people are still giving money away to these turds. After they follow up with a I got ripped off shock post.. You choose to do business here with people you don't know makes it 51% your fault IMHO.

I'll have to give the OP some credit here. While I'm sure he's suffered some embarrassment from his predicament, he still had the cahonas to admit it and post a warning so no one else would get scammed. How many would've been too embarrassed to post this info much less avoid subjecting themselves to the ridicule of some in this forum for 'being stupid'? I, for one, am glad that the victims are courageous enough to admit they were taken and warn others to watch their six.

That was 100% my intention. Thank you for your post... I saw HighEndCigars had some positive feedback with other respected members of the community (although not a bunch of feedback, it was just enough for me to pull the trigger). I always check feedback before trading with anyone. Unfortunately I got burned, he had a plan, and he beat me to the punch. I'm not afraid to admit that this is my first time being taken advantage of on OLH. I am a grown man, so I did what I felt was the right thing to do and post this thread. Lesson learned, and I am not complaining just explaining the situation so others hopefully don't get screwed out of their hard earned money.

Let it be known that regardless of what people say, I fell that I did my part to bring awareness to this huge scammer!I have already moved on.... No sense dwelling about things I cannot change.

Now on the bright side of things I am grateful for so many things in life and that is where I choose to direct my focus and attention.

Cheers :)

I know the horse has been beaten, but everyone can accumulate a handful of good trades with regular stuff.  Where your BS detector should have alarmed like crazy was seeing such HTF/high end CC's out of nowhere with no history and nobody else to REALLY vouch for him outside of some run of the mill cigars.  That kind of stuff absolutely CANNOT be trusted outside of someone with MANY years of history and even then, without someone that is personally known by other long time BOTL's here or other cigar forums.

I saw the post.  I thought to myself that a box of 2002 Sir Winstons would be awfully nice to have.  Then I examined the post and noticed key points

-NEWBIE
-10 year old Espy's that seem kinda below market given the age
-The additions...seems like "I hooked in some suckers, I'll add more to catch more fish"
-Working through CABINETS to come up with just 4 boxes with the added cigars being even higher $ cigars
-Listing some of the most costly cigars like Cohiba Sublimes/LE's
-If you literally have "cabinets", notice nothing was listed as common as say a box of PSD4's or Monte No. 4's.

And it'll happen again because they know people want 10 year old Sir Winstons, Cohibas, etc more so than taking a period of hours or couple of days to do some REAL homework before handing over $1k.
