Guys like Pete Johnson make a killing creating limited releases and suckering everyone into believing it's a great product and you'll be left behind if you don't get a box.  Retailers all sell out and then people feel the need to pay 2x original price so they can get what hardly anyone is able to get.  No cigar is worth that hassle and everyone that falls victim to such marketing will fall into the trap for paying more for them ...  You people need to resist this nonsense and buy cigars that you can readily buy because all you end up doing is buying cigars that you cannot replace once they're gone.
[/quote]

I completely disagree with all of this.

1)  Do the math.  How much of a "killing" is Mr. Johnson making off 200-300 boxes of cigars?  Even if he does 8 of these a year ... tell me, how much of a "killing" is this?  Tell me how much extra money he's making off these releases vs. a full-production release.  [Had you said this about Viaje, I'd not have anything to respond with]

2)  "Guys like Pete Johnson ... suckering everyone into believing it's a great product and you'll be left behind if you don't get a box."
Give me one factual quote by Mr. Johnson to back up this enoneus and libel statement.  What I've heard and read him say is things like "It's just the Regios with a new wrapper.  A fun thing for the fans to try out."  Please, find me JUST ONE quote by Mr. Johnson that backs up your statement.  [Had you said this about Viaje or Fuente or HSA, I'd not have anything to respond with]

3)  Very few ... I mean very few people pay 2x what a cigar's retail price was immediately after release like you are suggesting.  It happened here (and I doubt many other places) with the T-Rex and Federal for a short time, but those are isolated incidents, and the buyers either had money to burn or were impatient.  The T-110 and Noella Reserva (two of the most acclaimed small batch Tats) do not sell for $19 and $17, respectively.  At least I've not seen that, and they were released much longer ago.  The Boris sells for twice what it retailed for (18-months later), as does the Frank, but those are the exceptions, not the rule.
People are not climbing over themselves after being "duped" by an evil overlord into paying twice what something originally cost.  I think you are blowing this completely out of proportion.

4)  A cigar is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.  To some people, a Cohiba Behike 52 isn't worth more than $10, to others they are worth $40.  Is either of these people wrong?  Is either of them a "victim" or "falling into the trap" of a bunch of "nonsense?"  I say no.  If you like a stick and are willing to pay for it, that does not make you an idiot or a lemming.  It makes you a happy guy who gets to smoke what you like.

I have said it once and I will keep on saying it.. Tats are the biggest DRAMA cigars ever. One thing for sure Johnson sure does keep me laughing with all this drama. I know I will be accused of something by the Tat lovers, but that is ok. Just so I can get them started...yes these Tats are DRAMA crap. If Johnson is not making money of off these cigars why does he make them? I will be waiting for all to call me a troll or tell me to  "smoke what I like" but I will also be laughing at the Tat loving , kool-aid drinking drama trolls. Send it boys.

Had to comment on this one in particular-

Hence all the threads b!tching about so-called "gougers" for listing something for what they've determined to be "too much", whatever that is.

(note, my comment is not directed specifically at the reply I quoted, just a convenient jumping in point)

..and all the threads of people bitching about the people bitching.  Somehow it's ok for people to charge what they want for their cigars, but it's not okay for others to disagree with it.  I'm always puzzled how this mentality seems acceptable to anyone OTHER than those clearly wanting to screw someone.  The comment is always made that no one is forcing people to buy at the stated price...if they don't like it to move on.  Someone commenting that a price is too high isn't forcing them NOT to buy either...

Just my two cents...I never had a Federal 190 Rosado or whatever...I always thought Federal made ammo...

The point is there are forums full of pompous jackasses that believe they are the price policers in order to "protect" their "brothers" from being gouged.  Cigars is the ONLY hobby that I've ever seen this in practice.  These people are like the Paul Blart's of the world (movie reference) who take some sort of pledge to call out anyone they deem to be so much as listing cigars for a price above what THEY think is a reasonable price.

If people want to buy something for what a seller is asking, I say let them.  People here are supposed to be legal adults and if they get "taken" because they didn't do their research, that's the cost of being stupid.

At the end of the day, I don't see any anti-policing posts like my own without carrying on from the Paul Blart's crying about a price on the B/S/T forum to begin with.

lol, I totally agree.  I think OLH can be broken into two groups:

1) Those who gripe about seller's pricing choices
2) Those who gripe about the aforementioned gripers

I'd like be able to claim "I'm just here to smoke cigars," but clearly that's not entirely true ... since i"m the BZ griping about gripers, lol.

Can we add a 4th group too ?

4. Those who like to make things personal and air each others dirty laundry in the public forums

That gouging thread in the BZ is getting a little out of control... that thread has been derailed. :cop:
