There are no NC that taste like Havanas, just as there are no Havanas that taste like NC (except the EL)

Well that’s my problem PL.  I don’t really like the New World profiles.  Some are ok but most i just find start or finish bitter. 

Also i’m in CA so everything gets hit with a ton of taxes and it’s been that way for decades so at best i'm looking at 17-20 dollars for a decent hand made cigar that i find bitter, and at that price point I’d rather order a box of Habanos.  pre covid i was paying like most of us, 8-12 dollars a stick.  But now i have to pay california prices for CC…. so be it.

The only NCs that consistently punch in their weight class are Padrons for me...but even they top out in the 94 range and are just expensive as a CC...the only way (for me) to get a truly transcendent experience is a (preferably aged) habanos...

Cuba grows the best cigar tobacco in the world, IMHO, and that's all terroir.  The QC issues were annoying, but when supply shit the bed, I took a hard look at what I was buying and decided to dabble in NC.  My palate adjusted and even as I smoke through my aged Havana stock, I'm finding equal enjoyment with a lot of NC.  It's not that they're the same, but the quality of my satisfaction, so YMMV, Smoke what you like - Like what you smoke, etc, etc.  While something like Aladino Corojo reminds me strongly of Havana terroir, it's not the same.

Picked up a Sampler of Aladinos from trigger..  i’ll report back

I believe the Golden Era is still ahead of us.

Once the communists are gone and the country opens up.  And the farms get proper investment and resources to grow their best crops.  And we see what the blenders and rollers from Padron, Fuente, Oliva, et al, can do with Cuban tobacco.

May we all live long enough to see it.

Hope is alive but the days of reasonably priced tobacco will never return IMHO.

Oh they will most definitely return if the state-run monopoly no longer exists post-communism.

It doesn't mean boxes of Behike will be $200 again, but there would definitely be lots of mid-shelf stuff available at NC prices.

The best outcome of all that is the return of properly different blends for different marcas.  I miss the days where a Partagas gave you extremely distinct flavor profile vs a Montecristo.
