I dig Prince, he has a sharp view on the geopolitics. I guess I should have forewarned that the channel is pro-Trump. Wrong link nevertheless. There’s another in-depth discussion on Maduro/Venezuela and it touches on the impact it has on Cuba. I’ll dig it up for those who have any interest.

Power went out countrywide again for 22 hours. Luckily they had 50-60F weather at night so the bugs were still. Hate to think what will happen next August when the heater is on full blast. John

A couple different documentaries (Cuba and the Cameraman, was one of the best) I've seen have pointed to the fact that once the former USSR fell, the $12-14 million dollars per day they were sending Cuba, also fell, and thus the shortages started. This was back in 1991. My colleague, our AP Spanish teacher at the school I work at is from Cienfuegos. She and her family immigrated to the US and were given political asylum. She still has family on the island and keeps in touch, and she has said as much. In the 1980s and prior it was beautiful, there was plenty of everything. Then, once the money and goods stopped coming in from the former USSR, it all went down hill. I was fortunate enough to visit twice. And I agree with how others describe it. Unfortunate, to say the least.
