20+ years ago I worked in the Caribbean and Latin America as a factory rep. Every country that they could take advantage of they would squeeze it dry. In local markets/restaurants lobster and high end fish disappeared, all being bought up by the Chinese. In the short run they might be helping the local fisherman but in the long run destroying that small economy. After the real estate market collapse of 2008 the Chinese were buying up hotels/casinos in the Bahamas. They fixed them all up in hopes of cashing in at a later date. Not one local worker was used for those rebuilds, the help was all imported in. So local governments let them in and they dont play by the rules. When they leave town you're holding an empty Dixie cup. Cuba is no exception. John

Us N. American folks suck in our own right for sure but our level suck pales in comparison to what the Chinese are and represent.

China is certainly driving up prices on available stock, but fertilizer shortages have been a mounting problem in Cuba and production has been decreasing for 10 years as I understand it.
