Hutch my friend. I hate to break it to you, when you call the 800# for your bank and someone answers in the Phillipines; can't speak English well, doesn't know anything but "Oh, so sorry you are having this problem" and has to get 2-3 managers to help you the bitch stole someone's job.
No, "the bitch" offered to do the job for less, and the employer reduced expenses by hiring her. The job is the employer's to give to whom he chooses. I'm not saying that I agree with your bank's choice of hiring, just that the employee owns only what he/she brings to the position and the compensation provided. Excepting discrimination laws, nobody can tell me who I can or should hire. Folks who disagree are welcome to invest their own life savings, open a business OF THEIR OWN, and hire whomever they choose. Unions have created the mess, but, as Wade posted...another subject :)

As I understand it, many people living in, say, Flint, felt something had been stolen from them.

They might "feel" that way, but they'd be incorrect :)

Couldn't disagree more! If it wasn't for Buick, Flint would have been nothing but another corntown. By pulling employment from the area for no other reason than to maximize profits and skirt the costs of environmental and labor compliance, they created a crime-ridden hellhole that is now costing the State of Michigan $$$.

I reckon it's a moot point. The UN has assured us a socialist future and nothing will stop it.

The UAW was as culpable as bad management by the Big 3 in the collapse of Detroit.  But that's a whole other conversation.
I wouldn't say the UAW was AS culpable. If anything, they just made the inevitable happen that much sooner. Greed and a lack of community loyalty were the driving factors.

So you believe that private companies should be REQUIRED to keep their business in a particular location ? You believe that who they hire should be dictated by someone else ? Let me guess...the government ? The government telling a business where it must stay and who it must hire ? I'm at a loss for a response to such a repulsive idea. I can't help but think that you're pulling our legs.

Sounds remarkably like the Havana model to me.

To your first question, sure, if there are any tax incentives being offered.  Hang the incentives on a 99-year "lease" in which the company agrees to be immediately liable for paying back all incentives if they relocate within the 99 years.  Resource extraction would obviously not work under this model, but you get the idea.

The rest of your questions fall to a slippery slope.  Should someone dictate WHO you hire?  Yeah, you personally are only allowed to hire crackheads, convicted thieves and undocumented immigrants exclusively.

This is getting really stupid really quick Hutch.  I'd just wash my hands of it now if I were you.

Carrier was one of the last companies to announce it was leaving and was a focus of Trump's attention during the campaign.  The company came back and said they would have considered staying if the workers making $20+ hour would take a rate less than minimum wage.

Cheap labor offers lower costs and companies are always going to increase their bottom line and put more money in their pockets, regardless if there are enough people here with enough money to buy said products.

Aren't most of these companies beholden to stockholders? It's a terrible position we're in I agree. If we don't start manufacturing things in this country we're dead.

All of my questions pertain to a slippery slope that we are already sliding down. And folks who want to determine THEIR share of what OTHERS have invested their time and money into have pushed us off the edge. It's no wonder that we are seeing folks by the millions fleeing to Right To Work states, business OWNERS doing anything they can to protect the bottom line and ROI from the businesses that they OWN, and the same folks taking their money out of the country.

Anybody with a brain, who has earned something, only to find folks trying to steal it, is going to hide it. Job producers and business builders are dwindling, and the parasites are multiplying. The scary day is approaching when the parasites will no longer have the producers to live off of...it's not going to be pretty. Hell, elect another "progressive" and see how fast you can destroy the American economy  >:(
