Those people greasing the politicians palms are doing what's in the best interest of their company/industry and the interest of their stockholder's. I don't really expect them to do anything other than what's best for them (not saying that's right either). The politician on the other hand, is supposed to represent the public's interest and have taken an oath to do so. Don't understand your logic at all here.

Not to be rude, but I'm not sure what there is to misunderstand. If you've got a corrupt official who's taking kickbacks/illegal donations/whatever, sure, go ahead and put someone else in office. That new person's going to have to either play ball (with all the filth that entails) or sit in irrelevance...and probably not going elected again once she can't finance her campaign because corporations, interest groups, etc threw their support behind a challenger. Money is the name of the game. Blame the politicians, of course, but that hardly scratches the surface of the real problem.

Fixed. Not all politicians are corrupt and making broad associations among all politicians only sounds like you're defending the corrupt ones. Is that what you intended?

My intention was only to respond to Cohim's "shadiest" politicians:

WTF ever happened to "We the people"? The US would be much better, and it would force politicians to be more transparent. The politicians with the shadiest politics will more than likely loose. With the exception of Louisiana. We like em shady as hell. ;D

I think calling for transparency is certainly a good thing in helping hold our elected officials responsible, but not enough people ask about the donors.

A good politician is one who honors the position he was paid off to represent. Lol!
Sad but true.....

Ok, I understand your point and it's not without merit.

Yea Wade, but at the end of the day it is about population and those urban areas have more people with rights to be heard also. I think you have hit on an interesting argument, prob not your argument, that representation of individual americans may not represent the different cultures across the US. This of course opens a whole other "is democracy a good thing" discussion. Seems this whole take leads to a great State's Rights argument, and the urban center would exude less national influence if the Federal government had less power.
[/quote]
The population imbalance has certainly weighted the say-so toward the urban areas...it's where the people are... Duh. I'm very interested in states right, if certain limits are met. I think we've gone past the point of Federal Govt "meddling". We're probably undergoing, or about to go, the greatest change in U.S. politics ever...sleeping through history class nothwithstanding.
