I love the Palio but I am soon to be on my third onethe first exploded into 4 pieces upon opening it to cut a cigar, a buddy had a contact and got me a new one. The new one did the same thing right away (only 2 pieces. I put it back and just a bit more gingerly open it. BUT today I notice it wasnt closing all the way and the blades are touching and nicked them up too. Not happy and their site is down. Anyone have a name and number of someone at Palio?

Love the sharpness and look etc but quality may be an issue, although the first one lasted a while before exploding

Love my palio too.  I have head it almost two years but about a month ago it broke in to two pieces and one of the blades popped out.  I was able to put it back together and it has been working fine just have to be gentle.

Cant you just take it in to a B&M or do you have to mail it in?

I have a few Palios laying around, and use them on occasion and they've been great.  Xikar has always been outstanding, but this is becoming my favorite.  Picked it up from Iwan Ries in Chicago from the gent himself.  Nice guy.  Excellent cutter.  They should show the reverse of it.  It's almost impossible to get a bad cut.  Not really built so much for torps/pyramides, etc., but can still be used I suppose...cut twice.  Anyhow, a great cutter IMHO and can't beat 12 bucks.  Great quality.

I've been a Palio guy since 07 and I love it. Been on my current one for about four years of heavy use and it's finally starting to show its age (although I wet the cap before cutting, so I almost never get cracks). I always loved the craftsmanship of the Xi1/Xi3 cutters but the teardrop shape never felt comfortable in the hand for me. Also, with Palio you are supposed to be able to swap it on the spot at any authorized Palio retailer.

IMHO, the X8 that Xikar makes is vastly inferior to the Palio in that one section recesses into the other (like a drawer). Anyone who has ever had something get stuck behind a drawer before should be able to figure out the potential flaw here. I've had numerous guys bring theirs into the shop with bits of tobacco jammed inside, making it unable to close all the way (and therefore unable to cut completely). Also, I've had two different guys try to attempt home repair; both ended up stripping the screws. If MSRP was $20, it might be a viable option, but not at essentially the same price as its main competitor.

Aside from Palio, the best cutter I ever had was an old Nat Sherman cutter made by Tsuge (the Japanese knife company). Used it for over a decade until I lost it. Would love to have another but haven't even seen one in years. As for scissors, I am a big fan of those Xikar folding scissors. Occasionally you can come across some of the old Italian ones on eBay in unused condition. In my experience, those (as well as the German Xi cutters) are far superior to the Asian ones currently made.

I don't use a V-Cut often enough to comment on a favorite, although the Xikar one has worked well for me before. And I know some guys like the Shuriken but the draw is a crapshoot for me once I'm halfway through the cigar. Sure, it's cleaner than a guillotine, but so is a punch, which is both preferable and more readily available.

Ryan, that Iwan Ries cutter looks like the one from Cuban Crafters. If it is, I think it should also have a lifetime warranty. I know they make them for other companies (we've had them as Drew Estate promo items). Lots of guys in our shop love that cutter.

I went with a xikar xi2 for now. I couldn't be happier. But I might still pick up a Palio as well sometime soon
