I have a few 09 SWs that I've been waiting for them to hit the 5 year mark.. You think their at their prime or should I wait another year? I would love to grab a couple aged Cohiba Esplendidos to smoke with my dad and brother in law I think that would be a great bday smoke!

I tend to gravitate to well aged opus or casa's. Of course a Cohiba Lancero will always take precedence!

I always have a hard time smoking my special occasion cigars so usually I grab one of my top favorites with decent age which always seems to be perfect.
Every once in a while for no reason Ill grab a special occasion cigar. Sometimes I'm not overly pleased so I guess the way I do it works out ok.

I agree, I was one who would "collect" and then whenever something special came along would try a HTF sometimes just to be let down! Now I just grab and go to a trusty old friend with some age for those times when I need that great experience!

Re: Special Occasion Cigars?
The Birthday has come and gone I take it... however it's good discussion.
When I'm in a social group / party the cigar is not what's making a good time, it's the people. I could smoke a turd of a cigar and still have an outstanding time. So for those occasions something special doesn't really make it onto the menu. Alone on the deck after work, or relaxing after dinner with the wife sipping a glass of wine, porching it with a bud, here I can really enjoy what I'm smoking. In fact if I don't enjoy it the cigar will get tossed rather soon. There's not many distractions. This is the only time I'd consider smoking a "special" cigar.
