I had a desktop get hit a couple of times.  Since I started using temp controled storage and keeping the temps in the mid to low 60s I've never had a problem.

I used to freeze everthing also, but don't any more.  I've been lucky and only had one small outbreak from cigars I bought in Jamaica.

My wine fridge is set at 65F.

I've rarely ever had to freeze my cigars...only those from suspect sources.

'will add that I will put in fridge one day PRIOR to freezing in addition to what was said above.  Just seems it would be a little easier on the cigars if they are gradually brought down to below freezing temp'

CAUTION:  I do not think this is prudent.  I have been told as well as read in several places that the idea is to get the cigars as cold as possible as quickly as possible.  This method is most likely to crack any eggs, the most difficult form of beetles to kill. 

Good info guys.  I put some in the freezer today--cheap bundle sticks that came with a Humi.  :tears:

Damn things are ok smokes though.
Found 4-5 with beetle holes but no sign of live critters.
Hope my other humis are ok.

Learned my lesson, be careful with ALL new smokes from now on, close inspection and isolation for a while.

YES!!  Never hurts to be cautious.  To fail to be cautious can hurt very much.  FREEZE EVERYTHING!!!  Singles, fivers, boxes, EVERYTHING!!!

I just saw mention of 'freezing' while reading a thread at CF.  I wondered if the reference was literal, so I came here, looking for answers.  :bigup:  This is great info for me.  I read somewhere that AF irradiates their cigars, so as to kill everthing, beetle, larvae, and egg.  And, since I was in the service, I know irradiating can't be that bad, as I've had more than a couple MRE's that I preferred to 'fresh' food! lol

  But that left me wondering about the other cigars I have.  I've never been hit, thank God.  But I've seen pics of the aftermath of an infestation.  What a waste. 

A question for those who would know-  sub 'zero' temps were mentioned previously.  And it seems logical that just going a couple of degrees below 32 degrees wouldn't be as effective as dropping the temp to 20 degrees or lower...

Is it best to try and drop the temp below 0?  And is this feasible? thanks for any other input...

32F is not going to do much for you.  Someone once noted that you actually need to get sub zero to kill eggs. (I think it was Lew Rothman) As for irradiating.  It would be a great solution if it's done.  Anything you use that is marked "sterile" from band aids and contact lens solution to baby powder and black pepper, is irradiated.

after 1 beetle attack, i freeze everything-i also try not to order much online in summer, the cigars get exposed to high temps in shipping

I freeze every single box @ -15 for 3 days. I'm not taking any chances.
