No more Trinidad ?

Post by tksamtec »

Saw this news blurb over at halfwheel yesterday... looks like Trini is done for awhile... or at least until whatever the "distant future" means.

I really enjoy their current production lines, but I agree with most in that they are a little on the expensive side, compared to other great CCs.  I also find that Trini's need a lot (maybe more than other brands) of resting time before they fully develop, 3+ years for most sticks from my findings.  I have a box of '10 Reyes that are smoking fine now, but will defintely get better and develop more with time.

I was pretty disappointed about this. I agree the might be a little on the expensive side and they do need a lot of rest, but they are great cigars.

Let's hope they are reincarnated at a lower price point and the same quality/blend.

I might be reading into this incorrectly, but is it possible that the line is being eliminated in the German market? As far as I know the RE and Robusto is still coming out of LaCorona in Havana. John

John, maybe an email directed towards Christopher Wolters is needed to get more info.  I enjoy the Trini regular production releases but I do think they are expensive in comparison to other brands.  It doesn't sound to me like its just a Germany thing...

c/p from the halfwheel article...

A pair of cigars, the Robusto Extra and Robusto T, were both discontinued this year.

UPDATE: In a blog post further discussing the news, Christoph Walters offers a cut and dry reason for the stoppage in production: “the nasty price tag.” He goes onto say that “consumers around the globe bought Cohibas instead and left these Trinidads sitting on the shelf.”

He goes onto commend Habanos S.A. for the decision, saying “let the ‘old Trinidad’ cigar line rest in peace,” while looking forward to a relaunch of the brand with a more moderate price tag.

UPDATE (April 26, 2012): Christoph Walters has updated his blog to say that the Trinidad Reyes, Coloniales and Fundadores will not be discontinued, but just the Robusto T and Robusto Extra, as previously announced.

As of this weekend the folks at LaCorona have heard the rumors but there are still orders coming in and the product is going out for the two on the list. John

Thats good news--sort of makes me wonder if someone started a rumor to ramp up sales on those 2 supposedly discontinued lines.  Alot of people love the Trini Robusto Extras and Ts.
