Infinity Bottles?

Post by kingcohiba »

I read about these somewhere a couple of years ago and if you aren't familiar with them it's basically a bottle that you constantly add different types of liquor to and it never is emptied? Something like that.

I decided a few months ago that I was going to make one out of American whiskey. I basically added roughly a shot of whatever I had opened up at the time and then whenever I got something new I'd add a shot of that to it. I sampled it along the way and while it was better than some whiskey I've had, I felt as though I was just making 750 ml of mediocre whiskey.

Well last week I bought a bottle of four roses small batch select and I wasn't very fond of it. I decided I was going to try it again tonight and while I had it out dropped a shot in my "infinity bottle" and then I remembered that I had also bought a bottle of old forester prohibition style last week (which is decent), so dumped a shot of that in as well. This filled it up.

I hit the four roses again, still not a fan, and then I tried the infinity bottle and those two whiskies really changed that bottle completely. I'm guessing it's somewhere in the 100 proof range, it's extremely flavorful and the brown sugar on the nose is just incredible.

I don't think that I'll be adding anything to it as it's great (for me) how it is. I am going to try to recreate it though but that's going to mean that I'm going to have to buy some of the bottles that are long gone.

Just wanted to share my experience with this kind of goofy experiment.

Anyone else have one?

I haven't done the pure infinity bottle thing.

But when I have two bottles that I don't really like (either gift or blind purchase), I often will try them poured together into a glass.  I don't pour anything into a full bottle.  Just half and half into a glass to drink from.

And many times I find the result to be fair to decent.

The fact that you actually created something you really like (rather than just okay) is really interesting.  I might have to try combining more than two and see what I get.

Yes I'm surprised. It's purely an accident but yes I like it a lot.

I like this idea. It definitely has the mad scientist vibe to it.
