There are no more Monsdales. I love Jorgito and he rolls great cigars but they are no longer Monsdales. Monsdales died when Mons left Club Havana and Leo took over. I was the last person that Mons personally rolled for for a while. Mons rolled for me all types of sizes that were extremely consistent in blend and quality. No one had the connections like he did. I can't tell you how many people sent me Monsdales over the years that tasted nothing like the real thing.

Cigars can be such a personal thing.  I'm fortunate enough to have a full bundle of Enrique rolled Monsdales.  There is definitely a difference between his and Jorge's rolls.  With that said, I think Jorgito is doing a fine job.  Even when he doesn't have access to the prettiest wrappers, he pulls off an excellent blend.  I could buy his Monsdales all day.  Your fortunate to have had such a close relationship with Enrique.  I didn't know him much but he was a class act when I visited.

You were the last person?  When was that?

Jorgito was rolling them since 2003 or so.

I've had a couple of Enrique's sticks, as Frank mentioned, from our 2012 trip (he did the ones for the wooden boxes / anniversary sticks for the LCDH).  There's barely a bee's knees in perceptible different between those, and Jorgito's Monsdales.  And even that, might be subconsciously-made / un-blind perceptible only.

Honestly, I think it's a bit of a moot point, too.  Enrique himself blessed Jorgito to take over for him, gave his blessing, still called Jorgito's sticks Monsdales himself, said he was honoured, etc.

So if Enrique himself "handed the torch over" to Jorgito himself....why are you then proclaiming "no more Monsdales"???

The tobacco is just not even close to the same. Different people even in the past also got different tobacco and that was when Mons had his pick of the litter. I'll just say this. I've never sold a single real Monsdale and never would. Priceless. Many here clearly have a monetary interest in moving their stock. Games been over since 2013. Sorry guys.

I can attest that the cigars that Mons rolled for you were amongst the best custom cigars I've ever had, right up there with some Hamlet Flying Pigs and a batch of magical La China robustos. I got.  Thank you for sharing way back when.

Mons-rolled cigars are completely different from Jorge-rolled cigars. One aspect of its difference is how his cigars somehow maintain their consistency YoY better than regular production. Another is the strength; it is silly how strong his cigars are, so much so that I cannot sleep for two days. If you cannot distinguish the difference, then it is either that you have been lied to about the provenance, or that taste is subjective.

Furthermore, Jorge-rolled cigars procured by Europeans taste different from ones of Canadian/USA provenance. Unfortunately, most people in USA have only had experience with the latter, and sadly do not know what proper Mons-rolled Monsdales nor Jorge-rolled Lonsdales taste like - that is, until they visit Cuba themselves and figure out what has been going on.

Do you have the same issue with Johnny O? Is Monsdale a name with any relation to lonsdale?

I just like smoking awesome cigars with great years and reviews. This thread made me think of these things for no reason, just bored at the moment I guess.
Great coffee, cigars and whiskey. Love them all.

Mark, I don't recollect, but I don't believe so either - have you been to Cuba yourself, visited the Club Habana LCDH, got sticks from Jorgito himself?

And if I recall, you had the same doubts / issues with Hamlet coronas and other specialty sticks we got from him in the past.

I chuckle a bit at the Euro vs Can/US sticks difference - when we all get there and visit together, and get each other to put in orders for the overall group of us or whatever, I just DON'T GET how there can be a proclaimation of different sticks.  Again, I don't know who else are selling sticks as Monsdales / Jorgito-customs.  I can vouch for those who I've been at Club Habana with, and likewise I'm sure.

And I still don't get why people have such a tizzy about what Enrique himself blessed these for Jorgito moving forward.  Who are you / we to doubt or second guess that???

Some of these conspiracy theories and such just make my head spin a bit.

In the long run, we're just smoking fermented weeds, guys and gals!

No, and that wasn't the point. The argument was that if one did not have the intellectual curiosity, nor knowledge of history, he would not be able to ask the correct questions, or better yet, realize that he is being lied to.

I am sure he has rolled some nice cigars for you in the past.

I don't know what you are getting. It could be possible that you - personally - are getting a product rolled by Jorge himself. Same answer as above.

There is quite a difference between a factory line roller and the former head of quality control of Cubatabaco.
